"Vayeira: The Lot Family and The Witness of Fire and Ashes and Death"
Dear Doves,
The
Torah portion or reading for this week from Genesis, week five, is
Vayeira/ Va Yera. From the Hebrew this means "And he appeared",
who appeared? YHVH appeared to Avram. The story of Lot and his family
appears in chapter 18: 16-33, chapter 19: 1-29 is about YHVH as The
Judge/Deliverer, and chapter 19: 30-38 is about Lot and his two
daughters. The Torah reading about the Noah family was two weeks ago.
There are 21 days between the Noah story and the week ending the Lot
story next weekend as of 10-29-2010. Is this mere coincidence, or not?
The Lot family story is much about the witness of fire and death and
ashes for all the people of the five cities on the plain, minus three
people preserved. Is it a coincidence that the Torah reading for 10-23
to 29 includes the second of the two stories in Genesis our Master
reflected upon in His Olivet Discourse? The Noah family escaped from
water, flood, and death. The Lot family escaped from fire, ashes, and
death. Next weekend is the lead up to the eerie death celebration day
of All Hallows Eve. Is this timing mere coincidence? Is there a pattern
here? May we be WATCHING for The Master, who shall be, in times
ahead for us, both Judge and Deliverer! The WORD Made Flesh shall draw
near and APPEAR!
With Love and Shalom,
Jean
