I
have a question about whether there is a relationship between these two
verses. I think their might be; but not sure yet. I remembered the
passage below in Rev. 19 when I read the one in Psalm 22. I guess I am
wondering who is saying this; who is it about.
"I
will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will
praise you. You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of
Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!" ~ Psalm
22:22-23
And, this one from Revelation:
"Then
a voice came from the throne, saying: "Praise our God, all you his
servants, you who fear him, both small and great!"" ~ Rev. 19:5
I
think the small and great are referring to the size of the group here
because immediately after this John says "then I heard what sounded
like a great multitude..." Which has me wondering if the Psalm 22:22-23
passage is a prophecy about this voice from the throne in Revelation.
The descendants of Jacob could be a reference to the Jews, whereas the
descendants of Israel could be a reference to the Gentiles who received
the LORD. The Gentiles will be greater in number than the Jews.
Also,
I always thought Psalm 22 was entirely a prophecy about Jesus, but then
I read verse 14 and recall no passage about Jesus' bones being all out
of joint.
"I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint." ~ Psalm 22:14
Actually,
I can't even imagine what a person would look like if all their bones
were out of joint. The body would have to be beaten pretty severly for
that to be accomplished. Reminds me of the verse in Isaiah 52:14 "His
appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred
beyond human likeness."
However, this is a well known verse which does relate to a prophecy fulfilled by Jesus.
"They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." ~ Psalm 22:18
So,
I'm wondering if Psalm 22 is a prophecy about someone else who would
drink of the cup the LORD drank. I remember when James and John's
mother came to ask Jesus if her sons could sit at his right and left in
his kingdom. Jesus reply was, "You don't know what you are asking, can
you drink the cup I am going to drink?" ~ Matt 20:22
The
other passages that come to mind are the prophecy about Jesus from
Jacob's blessing on Judah "He will tether his donkey to a vine, his
colt to the choicest branch." ~ Gen. 49:11 Then Isaiah 11:1 "A shoot
will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear
fruit." And, finally back to Genesis 49:22 for the prophecy about
Joseph (the prince among his brothers) from Jacob's blessing, "Joseph
is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb
over a wall."
There
sure are a lot of 11's and 22's in there by the way; just noticed those
numbers popping up here. Could these verses be related to the two
lampstands and the two olive trees that stand before the Lord of the
earth, which are the two witnesses at the end? ~Rev. 11:4
