Dear Family                                          30 Sept 2008

We have seen the first slither of the new moon this evening.

This means technically that Jerusalem will only be seing the first slither of the new moon tomorrow night.

So Rosh Hashanna will start tomorrow night at the sighting of the new moon. (Psalm 81:3)

We posted our siting to Jerusalem so they know that it will be visible to them tomorrow night.

Here is Nehemia Gordon`s report of the non sighting this evening from Jerusalem:

New Moon Not Sighted

On Tuesday September 30, 2008 the new moon was not sighted by
observers from Israel. With the time between sunset and moonset only
20 minutes this was exactly as expected. As a result, Yom Teruah will
begin Wednesday night, Oct 1, which is the 31st day from the previous
sighting. This is because a lunar month can only be 29 or 30 days long
and the non-sighting tonight made the Sixth biblical month 30 days.
