"Horns, shmorns- Who knew?!"
Moses has been depicted with horns because of a translation
blooper.
In Genesis, the word 'karan' (Hebrew for rays of light)
was used to describe
Moses descending from Sinai. In the Latin version, The
Vulgate, St.Jerome
mistook the word for 'karen' which meant horns. Not only
does this perception
still exist in the minds of many, but it is fueled by
thousands of works of
art showing poor Moses sprouting horns instead of light
rays.
I have known Jewish people who have been asked by Gentiles
to see their horns!
Jews do not have horns on their heads so don't ask!
