"Halloween Guilt"

Dear Doves,

I too have been thrown into the Halloween mess.  I have two children, one 15 and one 9.  The 15 year old trick or treated and wore the “innocent costumes”.  I kept telling myself……”He’s doing it for the candy so there is no harm.  We’ll go around the neighborhood for about 30 minutes and call it quits.  It will be like we never even went.”  Well……I knew that the Holy Spirit was telling me that it was wrong but I felt guilty because of my children.  No More.  I told my 9 year old a few weeks ago that he wasn’t going out.  I told him if he was in it for the candy, I’d buy him a dozen bags.  We are going out as a family, away from the neighborhood.

People have been talking about cleaning their house, preparing for the return of Jesus.  I think taking a stand against Halloween would be a great way to clean. Take a look at this example:

I have a beautiful Christian friend that absolutely LOVES Halloween.  She told me last week that her house is all decorated with witches and ghosts.  She goes all out.  I told her how I felt, that it was a Holy Spirit conviction and I wasn’t going to do it anymore.  She doesn’t feel the same way.  Oh well.  But, it was then that  IICorinthians 6:17 hit me like a slap in the face.  “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.   I thought to myself, “I can be a witness to my Christian friend and to others by not celebrating this holiday.”  I immediately knew that I was doing the right thing and this would please the Lord.

Am I preaching and telling people that I think they had better not celebrate Halloween?  No.  What I’m saying is that I’ve had a personal, Holy Spirit conviction and I’m sticking to my guns.

Now let me see if there is a nice family movie my family can watch on television tonight.  Hmmm…….Oh my…….Halloween III……nope.  Hellchild……nahhhhhh…….   The Omen?,,,,,,,not for me.  Oh here’s one…….A Bucket of Blood.  Noooooooo!

I guess when Halloween is over there might be something decent. (but unlikely, right?)

FYI…. if you really want to pass out tracts, you can walk around your neighborhood everyday of the year and drop them on front porches. It doesn’t have to be a Halloween event.

I would hope that everyone would pray about this holiday and ask the Lord for guidance.  Like I said, this is my own personal conviction.

God Bless you all.  Please…..Come quickly Lord Jesus.
