"George Washington's vision"
http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/oct2007/jonathang1020.htm
Much as this supposed vision of George
Washington appeals to Christians and patriots, it is not true. There is
not one historical document nor other shred of evidence to prove that it
is true. I encourage anyone who has actual proof to share it, as to my
knowledge, it cannot be done.
According to many internet sources, the
story is a fabrication dating back to 1880 when a writer by the name of
Wesley Bradshaw had the story published in the National Tribune
newspaper. According to the author, it was a third-hand report given him
by an army officer who was not even at Valley Forge more than 80 years
before the story was written, but not published for an additional 20 years.
So it is all hearsay.
Those who claim it was published in the
Library of Congress are referring to the fraudulent story, not an original
speech by Washington himself. There are no written journals or letters
in existance that prove Washington ever had such a vision. In fact, there
is much historical evidence to prove that Washington was a Mason. Do a
google search and you will find over 2 million entries on this subject.
There is a well-known painting showing Washington, wearing his masonic
apron, laying the cornerstone for the US Capital building, as well as newspaper
accounts of the day describing this event. There are historical letters
penned in Washington's own hand that make mention of his masonic involvement.
And the Washington monument is replete with many masonic symbols, as is
the entire city of Washington D.C. Don't take my word for it, check it
out for yourselves.
Before one forwards anything that
is making the rounds on the internet, may I suggest that one do a
search for the truth, even though a nice-sounding article claims to have
already done this. There are far too many fraudulent stories that are circulating
as truth. Pray for the discernment of the Holy Spirit to guide you as seek
the truth and He will show you the way. Whether George Washington was a
true believer in Jesus Christ, only the Lord knows. However he would be
in good company with many other Masons who are prominent church members
in practically every demonination across the land. I am not judging his
salvation, I am simply pointing the way to the truth. One can draw his
own conclusions from historical facts.
