"RE: Mary Baxter and other personal revelations"

Dear Doves,

May the Lord bless you and keep you!  About 12 years ago, I was given a copy of Mary Baxter's book, A Divine Revelation of Hell, and not only did I rededicate my life to the Lord, but through that book, the Holy Spirit redirected my life and saved me from many consequences of my poor choices.  I have thanked God so many times for Ms. Baxter and her obediance to the Lord.  Upon reading her testimony, the Holy Spirit not only confirmed the words, but used it to convict me of the sin in my life.  That was the major turning point which brought me back to the Lord Jesus.

Now, I have read countless people's opinions on whether her experience and others like hers, are genuine and wether we should regard any extrabiblical experience.  Here is my response:  Solomon said;

Ecclesiastes 1:9 (New International Version)
 9 What has been will be again,
       what has been done will be done again;
       there is nothing new under the sun.

Jesus said that we will "know them by their fruit".  If the experience or revelation glorifies Jesus and brings many to salvation, then we can rest assured it has good fruit.  Likewise, if the person's "revelation" seeks to lift up and exalt themself or the experience and draws people away from the essential truths, we can say that is counterfeitor bad fruit. Many cults have been formed by so-called revelations.  To my knowledge, however, there are no Mary-Baxter cults.

The entire bible is a blue print for how the future will play out; some people call this prophetic layering.  Therefore, when Paul was called Saul, and had his experience with the risen Lord, this would be a precedent for things to come. Other people would have "revelations" of Jesus and be shown prophetic events or receive insight from God. The same can be said for John and his revelation, Peter and his visions, and so on.  Remember Isaiah and Ezekial?  God is the same yesterday, today and forever.  What He did in the Old Testement he will do again.  What happened in the book of Acts, is happening still today.  Praise the Lord healing of our bodies and minds, forgiveness of sin and fullness of joy did not end with the original disciples' ministry! Jesus said that many more and greater things shall we do in His name!  If we question someone's experience then pray for them, ask for insight and then walk humbly before the Lord.

Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, still raises the dead, heals diseases, and does miracles!  He is alive and so is His word!  If He gave dreams and visions then, He will do it again.  If He translated Philip from one place to another supernaturally, He can do it again (and that would sure save on gas money!).  If He took Elijiah to heaven in his physical body (among others) He can surely take us whole and He will (it's called the Rapture)!  If the Lord showed John prophetic future events surely He can show His followers today events that will come.  If Jesus went to hell and preached to the people there, surely He can translate a person in the spirit and bring them back again to tell us all.

During Jesus's ministry on the earth, the folks he had the hardest time with were the "religious people".  The ones who felt they were the "keepers of the truth". There is no such ministry. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life!  He never condemned the sinners or simple-minded.  Instead, he chastized the learned, proud and religious people who doubted and judged his words and actions. These are the last of the last days and the Holy Spirit is moving all over the earth in great power.  The Lord is looking for those who are as brave as lions and as harmless as doves!

Love and Peace,
Dawn
