WHATS IN A NAME

When we come across the boring bits of the bible, how do we react? You know those endless lists, Bob begat Fred, and Fred begat Tom, and on and on. Well let us examine one such list and see if there is any hidden treasure.

The lineage of Jesus Christ is recorded at Luke 3:23-38. It lists 76 names from Adam to Christ. Below are the names with their meanings taken from straight out of Crudens Concordance.

Just for fun! I took the definitions and using only a few extra words I was able to join them together. I have found greater blessings in reading this out aloud. It seems to be spiritually powerful, like a statement of faith

The definitions are written in normal type, the added words are in italics.

Earthy man is taken out of the red earth, appointed as mortal man to possess and lament the sorrow he has purchased through sin. He who praises God and is the light of God, descends to rule and command, being dedicated, disciplined and initiated. Whose death is demanded in hell or the grave, made lowly and poor, even struck, to bring rest and consolation.

His name is renown, he puts in place to heal and release those who lament what was purchased. A mission to send forth branches, a passage through anger and wrath bringing division. As a friend and His shepherd he branches out on a new layer, through the hot dry and angry world to blow his scented breath. As the father of a great multitude he brings laughter, to supplant and undermine men's works, giving praise to the Lord. There is division, and the violent breaking forth, with darts of joy, and singing a new song. This reveals the deceptive haughty magnificence of cursed mankind with their princes they vow allegiance, to conjecture and foretell, like the serpent's false hopes of perfect peace and selfish reward, in the strength of the goat.

But God's servant, who is God's present, beloved, who gives and is given, as the gift of God.  Prepared in the fullness of the resurrection of God, in strength as the revenger, with the dove of the Holy Spirit he multiplies the people, increasing and adding, to the praise of God. We hear and obey as we are held in close association, enjoying the gift of God, we exalt the Lord, helping in his court, being raised by our saviour and pardoned.

Always watching for the enemy, God holds our measure, giving us His garments, not divination. His adornment is seen in my witness and my ways. My King, my counselor, and my light. I have asked God and been banished as a stranger from Babylonian confusion, to follow His will and course.

The grace, the gift, and the mercy of the Lord cause me to praise the Lord which increases as we hear and obey. The gifts of the Lord were small, but now brighter, separating me, bringing me nearer Him.

The comforter guides me with an increasing weight and load of the Lord's gifts, as they increase. He who speaks the answers to our afflictions and misery as my king and my counsellor. We are held in association, and know His gift, and who gives it, lifting us up, we ascend and increase in Him, our Saviour and salvation.
