"The seven pointed star, which is the only feature that distinguishes Jordan's flag from that of the Revolt, has a dual meaning: it stands for the seven verses of the first surah in the Qur'an and also stands for the unity of the Arab peoples. Some believe it also refers to the seven hills in which Amman, the capital, was built on."

"Amman is located in a hilly area of north-western Jordan. The city was originally built on seven hills, but it now spans over an area of nineteen hills (each known as a jabel or "mountain"). The main areas of Amman gain their names from the hills on whose slopes they lie."
