"SOME MESSIANIC REFERENCES IN THE TARGUMS"

Greetings Doves;
     The Targums also have some salient Messianic commentaries associated
with some Bible verses. There are numerous Targums (especially from the
Geniza folios), but among the more notable are Targum Onkelos (TO), Targum
Pseudo-Jonathan (TSJ), The Fragmentary Targum (FT), Targum Neofiti I (TNI),
to name just a few..
     Regarding Genesis 3:15 --
Genesis 3
15. And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her seed;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise him on the heel."
The various Targums have:
(TPJ): "In the days of King Messiah",
(TFT): "In the days of King Messiah",
(TNI): "In the day of King Messiah",
     Regarding Genesis 49:10-12 --
Genesis 49
10. "The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes,
And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
11. "He ties his foal to the vine,
And his donkey's colt to the choice vine;
He washes his garments in wine,
And his robes in the blood of grapes.
12. "His eyes are dull from wine,
And his teeth white from milk.
(TO): "Until the Messiah comes, to whom the kingdom belongs, and whom
nations (i.e. Gentiles) shall obey"
(TNI): "Until the time King Messiah shall come, to whom the kingship
belongs; to Him shall all kingdoms be subject. How beautiful is King
Messiah,,, How beautiful are the eyes of King Messiah." [This passage makes
it clear that the Messiah takes on human flesh - see 1 John 4:1-6].
4Qpatr (from TNI): "Until the Messiah of justice, the sprout of David,
comes, for to Him and His seed has been given the covenant of kingship.".

     (TSJ) regarding Psalm 45: "The anointed Messiah" (v 17) is identified
as LORD (v 8) and as "The Memra of the LORD". The sages used the word
"memra" (literally - speech or voice) to denote God. "Memra of the Lord" is
found about 322 times in TSJ.
     It is no wonder why the karaite Jews, after reading the Targums, many
became believers that Yeshua was/is the true Messiah.
