The head of military intelligence, Maj.Gen. Ze’evi Farkash, has told the cabinet that Al Qaeda has set up a base on the Sinai peninsula.

Farkash said the base was being used to train terrorists to attack Israel. Al Qaeda terrorists have already been sent into the Gaza district.

Farkash said that Al Qaeda has taken over a substantial area of Sinai. The group expelled the local inhabitants and has set up a large base surrounded by mines.

Egyptian soldiers and police have been warned to stay clear of the base.
