Christopher Reeve had extracted a quote which was evidently from the earlier part of Abraham Lincoln's life before he had become a Christian. Lincoln became a professing Christian in the latter part of his life.  Reeve was only interested in the part where Lincoln trusted basically in his own ability to do good works to satisfy himself and his creator.  If you believe that God can be known only through Christ, you cannot believe Christopher Reeve knew God.  We are not the judge of any man's standing before God, however, because only God truly knows the counsels of the hearts.  We can only perceive that Reeve had no Christian testimony.  What a difference in Reeve and Joni Erickson Tada, the beautiful Christian woman who was converted after becoming a paraplegic in her teen years, and has let her light shine for Christ for several decades.
