Vancouver mosque leader preached killing Jews
VANCOUVER - The leader of the Vancouver mosque, attended by the Canadian killed recently in Chechnya, has been found to be preaching about killing Jews.

Mosque leader Younus Kathradra made the speech in in response to the death of Sheik Ahmed Yassin, the spiritual leader of Hamas. He was killed last spring in an Israeli helicopter attack.

A recording was posted on the mosque's web site. In it Kathradra says " ... we are dealing with a people ... the brothers of the monkeys and the swine ... who's treachery is well known. We should all remember ... that these are people who will never keep their word."

His preachings repeatedly talk of killing Jews.

Later in the sermon Kathradra says the writings of the Koran view Jews as a treacherous people. He also chastises Muslims who preach tolerance.

"Today we hear from .. those who claim to be Muslims. We hear them, telling us that we must have love and must live in peace with these Jews. The reality is there is never going to be peace with them [the Jews]."

Kathradra couldn't be reached by CBC News to explain his speech.

The mosque is the same one that Rudwan Khalil Abubaker attended.

Abubaker was one of four men killed by Russian troops in Chechnya earlier this month.

Abubaker's family claim Rudwan and another man, Khamal Elbahja, went to a wedding in nearby Azerbaijan and were never seen again.

Abubaker's family says, he attended the local mosque, but nothing he said or did aroused suspicion that he was involved in any extreme political agenda.

Vancouver lawyer Phil Rankin is representing the Abubaker family and says no matter what was said in the mosque, Rudwan was not an extremist.

"He was not subscribing to anti-Jewish views, he was not on a crusade, he was not going there [Chechnya] to even the score about Israel or anything else," said Rankin.
