I have been to Saddleback Church in the past.  When their new building was built.  It is quite the building.  Gorgeous even.  Overlooking Saddleback Mountain with the Southern California weather.  Oh it was great.  Why am I talking about the building?  Because Pastor Rick Warren talked of how great “his” building was.  Winning architecture awards and all.  He would talk about the building.  Give one verse of scripture that had nothing to do with what he was “teaching” and then continue on about the building.  There was a total of THREE verses from the bible in the 1.5 hours I sat through it.  I went there three more times.  Each time that is what he talked about and gave bible verses that had nothing to do with what he talked about or with what each verse was talking about.  Why did he only give three bible verses?  Because his church SOLD bible classes and baptisms.  There was a pamphlet they hand out that has a list of classes from beginning biblical understanding to much more indepth like fully understanding the gospels.  When I read that I remembered what Jesus said, that which was given freely to you, give freely to others.  Paying for baptisms even.  I quickly left that church in disgust. I am not saying these things because I am biased against the man or his church.  I was new to the Christian faith and looking for a church and everyone seemed to be going to that church.  Thankfully my personal time I spent with the Lord kept me from being in a dead church but rather went to a live church that taught the bible.  Will I read his book, no I will not.  But if it makes you all feel better to do so, then go on ahead, but pray first.
