"...and children in school in USofA?"

Shalom All:

I read in other places of concerned USofA parents who couldn't get their children out of school during an emergency.

This story got me thinking again of their concern.
Iraqi Caught With San Diego School Crisis Plan
http://www.thesandiegochannel.com/news/3774563/detail.html

I followed various links to this link:
http://www.ed.gov/news/pressreleases/2003/03/03072003.html

"Paige (U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige) added that under the No Child Left Behind Act, local school districts must provide assurances that they have plans that outline how they are working to keep their schools safe and drug free.

"Paige unveiled the new resource on the heels of Homeland Security Secretary Ridge's introduction of the multi-year, multi-media Ready Campaign, which includes a new Web site www.ready.gov, to 'build a more prepared nation, one individual, one family, one neighborhood, one community at a time.'"

(Question:  Have you parents seen a copy of your school's plan?)

Then a little more than half-way down this page, under Prevention/Mitigation comes this point:
"Ensure a process is in place for controlling access and egress to the school. Require all persons who do not have authority to be in the school to sign in."

(Do you parents know if, during an emergency, you would even be allowed in the school to get your child(ren) if you chose?)

The world we live in now is not the same as ... even a week ago!!  Don't assume or take anything for granted.
