"In opening the spiritual center, the tribe also displayed another precious
acquisition made possible by their commercial success, a rare copy of the
Eliot Indian Bible, the first Bible printed in America. An English minister
who befriended New England Indians translated the Bible into the Algonquin
language in the 1600s in an effort to introduce the natives to Christianity."
