This post was inspired from a snippet from another source posted here about 'if Kerry is not elected civil war will break out'.In the way of background and to make a short story more interesting, my two boys and I did a unit study on World War II several years ago. We went into a lot of depth and ever since then, God has REALLY used the info to speak to me on aspects of spiritual warfare and how we, as christians, ought to have the mindset of a soldier and not a vacationer in this world! Well, like I said, that was a several years back. A while ago, less than a year, I got the urge to start a unit study on the Civil War. However, our home schooling has changed and it just wouldn't work out, but I just kept feeling like reading and researching this subject. So, finally, I figure out that this is God. I began the reading. I was continuously, no matter what topic I was covering, economic, political, etc., I was overwhelmed by "BROTHER VS. BROTHER" and also about families splitting up. It got to the point that I would have to put down the book and just weep from the heartbreak. I was wondering one day about how God taught me so much from WWII and now this study of Civil War and I felt like He said, "Civil War is next." I very much felt, at that time, that this would be the next big thing, first in the church (I think that's been seen already in some discussions here regarding people leaving 'formal' church and moving to other expressions be it, home groups, gatherings or other means of meeting together as the Body. This is a well documented movement in the world today as well.) but I have always felt that this would also be experienced in this nation. More recently, I have also felt that just as specific controversies predeeded the actual outbreak of hostilities of the Civil War, such as women's right, abolition and labor unions, for example, abortion and homosexuality could be such controversies in these current times. These issues bring out such high emotions. (Rabbit trail warning: Aren't there prophecies about groups in the middle of the country beginning fights? I have forgotten the wording. This has always been a mystery to me, I thought, perhaps terrorism? But I seem to remember the prophecies speaking about it being American groups blowing things up. Hmmm, well, only time will tell. You know, I cannot picture people becoming so polarized on gay and abortion issues, but look at all the amendments on state ballots this year!) Well, that was a rabbit trail, I just wanted to post what I felt that God was impressing me about Civil War and very specifically, I felt so much emotion about 'BROTHER VS. BROTHER'. Folks, that's in the church and I think we're seeing it. During the years proceeding the CW, almost every major denomination in this country split over the issue of slavery. (Did you know that's where 'Southern Baptist' came from?) I believe we might begin seeing this over homosexuality in the denominations. If so, I'd sure take it as a sign of a coming 'civil war' and we'd better have our hearts ready to be sacrificial towards the truth. 'What will a man sell his soul for?' is a good question these days. Back then, it was dangerous to speak up for slaves, what about now? You can lose your job over the gay issue. What are we doing about abortions? People back then opened their homes up for the Underground Railroad. Could you keep a young girl through her pregnancy and 'til she's back on her feet if she decides to keep the baby and give it up for adoption instead of aborting? I really don't know how far these things will go. I just see some things that could shape up into seriously polarizing issues. Might be a good time to start getting into the practice of standing up for the truth or making some sacrifices for 'the cause'. It may be a good to take a little time before God and honestly ask if there's anything we personally could do to help someone that is struggling with abortion or recovering from it's soul-scarring effects, or someone that is bondage to homosexuality or has a relative living in that lifestyle (I know, the Right word there is SIN!!). If a friend of yours has a child living that way, do you still have them over? Do you avoid them at church? Each of us may not be out on the frontline, so to speak, but I believe if we'd do some studying and aquaint ourselves with the needs of people suffering in these situations, I believe God would direct each of us to comfort someone or buy baby clothes at garage sales to give to the NOT abortion center in your town or start a prayer ministry for people in these bondages. I encourage everyone to do some reading on these subjects, find out what GOD is doing to heal and save these folks and get your faith up. Just as women knit socks or started an Abolitionist Society or a farmer risked his life building a false bottom on his wagon to transport slaves or a family let the Underground Railroad use their barn, we can all play a part in both attacking the 'institution' (can you say stronghold?) of abortion and homosexuality and also in helping those trapped in it, onto freedom in Christ.
