"Rightly Dividing Daniel's 70 Weeks"

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  II Timothy 2:15

Introduction

Let us study Daniel’s 70 weeks together, and as the Word says, not be ashamed.  Let us rightly divide these 70 weeks.  Not into 69 ½ weeks and ½ week as is the manner of some.  Nor into 69 weeks and 1 week as is the manner of others.  But into 62 weeks, 7 weeks, and 1 week as contained in the Word of God, the word of truth.

Let us understand that God has divided these 70 weeks into three time periods, not for us to divide further.  Let us also understand that God has divided these 70 weeks, not for us to remove the divisions God has placed.  But, for us to realize there are three time periods which all together add up to 70 weeks determined upon the people of Israel and the city of Jerusalem.  Between each of these three time periods there is a gap, a distinct periods of time, some call a dispensation, determined upon mankind, before the end of days.  The end of days, which is the end of time as we know it, is reached only at the end of the 70 weeks.

Daniel 9

Realize that in the history of Daniel’s people there have been at least two other periods of 70 weeks with gaps.  God dealt with and counted not to Israel the time in those gaps.  Various Bible chronologists have noticed those gaps when compiling and reconciling their chronologies.  Most notably are the years between Ishmael being born as a result of Abraham not waiting upon the Lord, and the birth of Isaac, the child of promise, the true first born, the one who opened Sarah’s womb.

Realize also how these periods of 70 weeks have played so prominently in the lives of Daniel’s people.  Daniel, himself in a foreign land, was living through the sentence of 70 years placed upon his people.  They had disobeyed God and observed not the Sabbath rest of the land for a period of 70 weeks.  They had about reached the end of their sentence as understood by Daniel and as handed down by God through the Prophet Jeremiah.  It was at this time when Daniel cried out to God for His people.

In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans; In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.  Daniel 9:1-2

Daniel then confesses the sins of his people.

We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:  Daniel 9:5

He then appeals to God’s forgiveness and mercy.

To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; Daniel 9:9

Daniel finally beseeches God for the sake of his people and their city, Jerusalem, that it is not just his people and his city but God’s people and God’s city.

O LORD, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.  Daniel 9:16

O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.  Daniel 9:19

Will God forgive them when they have finished serving their sentence for the 70 times 7 years they observed not the Sabbath of their land?  Will God have mercy on them?  But how many times can God continue to forgive them?  But then, how many times did Jesus tell Peter to forgive?

Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?  Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.  Matthew 18:21-22

Will God forgive?  Will God allow God’s chosen people to return to God’s Holy city?  Will God allow God’s chosen people to rebuild God’s Holy city?  Will God restore unto God’s chosen people, God’s Holy city?  We know God did forgive His people and in stages restored and will fully restore Jerusalem to God’s chosen people.  The first stage was Cyrus after the 70 years had been completed, just as the Prophet Jeremiah had foretold.  He ended the 70 years of desolations of Jerusalem by allowing those taken into captivity to RETURN to Jerusalem to rebuild at least the temple.

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.  Ezra 1:1-2

So how does God answer Daniel’s prayer and supplication?  God sends Gabriel directly to answer Daniel’s questions regarding the people of Israel and the city of Jerusalem.

And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God; Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.  And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.  Daniel 9:20-22

And then came what is considered the most famous revelation in the Old Testament, some consider the whole Bible, found at the beginning of Daniel 9:24.

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city,…

Daniel had just identified his people for whom he is praying as not just Judah, composed of the tribes of Judah, Levi, and Benjamin of the lower kingdom, but all “my people Israel”.  And his holy city is repeatedly identified as Jerusalem.  Now if these 70 weeks had started at the time of this proclamation by Gabriel, or later at the time of the proclamation by Cyrus, both before 500 BC, and ended 490 years later with no gaps, Daniel’s people and Jerusalem would have clearly ceased to exist some years before the birth of Jesus Christ.  Yes, ceased to exist.  The word “determined” as used here in Hebrew means, “to be determined, be decreed, be settled, be marked out”.

Gabriel pronounces a promise and a sentence.  The descendents of Israel and the city of Jerusalem only have seventy weeks determined upon them.  For Daniel though this was most likely reassuring from where he sat in a foreign land as he could see his people and his holy city disappearing into history.  To hear a promise that his people and his city would continue for many more lifetimes must have been good news.  For the rest us who have had the advantage of reading Revelation, we know the time is longer than 490 sequential years.  We know that the Israeli people and her beloved city, Jerusalem, exist even through the millennium and to the end of time.

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.  And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.  Revelation 20:7-9

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.  And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.  And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  Revelation 21:1-2

We are blessed that through God’s mercy there are gaps in the 62, 7, and 1 week that make up the 70 weeks.  Between the 62 and 7 weeks are the times of the Gentiles, often called the Church Age, and between the 7 and 1 week is the millennium, often called the Kingdom Age.  For we know that after the millennium, satan must be loosed for a little season.

And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.  Revelation 20:3

And at the end of the little season, the 1 week, the last week, comes eternity.

Daniel 9:24

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.  Daniel 9:24

At this point we should recognize that while we commonly call this Daniel’s 70 weeks, we should more accurately call this the descendants of Israel and the city of Jerusalem’s 70 weeks.  These 70 weeks are determined upon them, not Daniel.

Now on to analyzing Daniel 9:24.  We have seven events mentioned as happening during these 70 weeks.  The first two events mentioned are “to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins”.  We are all under the curse of Adam which is physical death.

Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.  Romans 5:14

Now while Jesus Christ finished redeeming this transgression by His blood, for all who will accept it, throughout time.

And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.  Hebrews 9:15

This transgression will not be finished till death is thrown into the lake of fire.

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  Revelation 20:14

Likewise sin did not end with the first coming of Jesus Christ.  Nor will the “end of sins” occur at the second coming of Jesus Christ.  It will not happen till after satan has deceived mankind for the last time, after the little season, when death is thrown into the lake of fire.

That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.  Romans 5:21

Let’s look at the last five:

…and to make reconciliation for iniquity,…

Jesus paid the price of our iniquity so we might be reconciled to God through his death of the cross.

Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.  Hebrews 2:17

However, reconciliation of everyone who has committed iniquity before God will not be finished till the end of time.  At Judgment day, reconciliation to God of all who are found written in the book of Life will be made for ever and ever as the Almighty Judge accepts His own Son’s sacrificial death upon the cross in payment for our iniquities.

…and to bring in everlasting righteousness,…

The next event is everlasting righteousness.  Eternity, the new heaven, the new earth, and the new Jerusalem, cannot be brought in until the unrighteous, the old heaven and the old earth, death, hell, and the grave have passed away.  Which brings us to:

…and to seal up the vision and prophecy,…

Daniel sealed up the vision he had and the prophecy he received as he was commanded.  This event would have happened before 500 BC.

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.  Daniel 12:4

In contrast, John the Revelator was commanded not to seal up the vision and the prophecy he received.

And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.  Revelation 22:10

Now comes the part of the verse which has caused much controversy:

…and to anoint the most Holy…

Some have taken this last event in the list as the last event which then ends the 70 week.  Even though the previous two events, the sealing of the vision and the sealing of the prophecy, were the first to happen in the list and even though at least some of the previous four must happen undeniably at the end of time.  But we have short memories.

To make this work though, they must interpret the anointing of the “most Holy’ as being the anointing of the “most Holy one”.  This must be the anointing of a person not an object, specifically when Jesus Christ was anointed with the Holy Spirit.  This must not be when the temple on the Holy mountain of God was rebuilt and rededicated to God and anointed with blood which poured down the mountain as described in Ezra.

And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy.  And offered at the dedication of this house of God an hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin offering for all Israel, twelve he goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.  Ezra 6:16-17

However, the latter is what Daniel had been praying for and what Daniel had been calling Holy:

O LORD, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.  Daniel 9:16

And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;  Daniel 9:20

Now God did indeed anoint Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit right after He was baptized by John:

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.  Acts 10:38

And there is some controversy that Jesus did not become Messiah or Christ until He was anointed by the Father with the Holy Spirit right after His water baptism.

But consider this.  We know the word “Christ” is the Greek translation of the Hebrew word “Messiah”, both of which translate into our English word “anointed”.  So by definition, to be Christ or Messiah, one must be anointed.  We may have forgotten though that Jesus Christ was anointed with the Word of God by action of the Holy Spirit at conception, just as He was anointed with the Holy Spirit by action of God the Father around 30 years later.  The bottom line though is his rightful title at birth would be Christ since he had been anointed.  Mary, His mother, like many of the woman of the time, desired to be the chosen vessel to give birth to the Christ.  And she indeed was blessed and gave birth to the Christ child, not someone who would not become Christ till 30 years later.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  Luke 2:11

It is written that Jesus Christ was conceived miraculously in Mary though she knew not a man, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.  Luke 1:34-35

Jesus was born as the incarnation of the Word of God.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.  John 1:14

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.  Zechariah 4:6

Daniel 9:25

Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.  Daniel 9:25

Here we have two divisions of the 70 weeks clearly identified for us.  We have seven weeks and we have 62 weeks.  That would leave one week, doing the math, to make a total of 70.  Here we also have two divisions of what was to be commanded.  We have restore and build.

So we have two time periods and two commandments.  Both are accounted to Israel.  Both are made by descendants of Israel.  All are done in their proper order.  Cyrus allowed the Israelites to RETURN to build their temple but he gave them no protection to allow them to build Jerusalem with a wall protecting them from their enemies.

Daniel 9:25 specifies building Jerusalem.  Since the Israelites were a conquered people they were at the mercy and whim of their conquerors who had no desire to see Jerusalem become a fortified city with a wall.  And Jerusalem had in no way been restored to the Israelites.  It would take till the time of Nehemiah just for the wall to be rebuilt and under the exact conditions foretold, “the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times”.

Now the King gave Nehemiah the power to go back and rebuild the wall, which the King’s “commandment” or authorization has been traced back to 445 BC.  Sir Robert Anderson wrote a masterful groundbreaking work over 100 years ago using this year.  He used seven times 360 days to number the days of each week in Daniel’s 70 week prophecy.  This reckoning was and is generally accepted based not only on our understanding of the Babylonian calendar, but based on how the book of Revelation apparently equates 1260 days with 42 months and 3 ½ years.  Using this reckoning Sir Robert Anderson added together the 62 weeks and the 7 weeks of 360 day years and came to 32 AD.  This would seem to give validity for adding together the 62 and 7 weeks with no dispensation, no Age of the Gentiles, between.

Now while I can find nothing wrong with using 360 day reckoning, it should be pointed out that had Sir Robert Anderson used solar reckoning he would have ended up at 39 AD.  But even 32 AD is pushing it for the crucifixion.  Josephus recorded that Jesus of Nazareth was crucified 40 years before Jerusalem was destroyed which would place the date at 30 AD.

There is also a letter purported to be from Pilate to Caesar about crucifying Jesus with the date of April 6th, which would be a week early for the Passover in 32 AD but would fit 30 AD because of the day of the week of the full moon.  Subtracting 3 ½ years for the ministry of Jesus Christ and then 30 years for the age of Jesus Christ when he began his ministry we arrive at the fall of 5 BC using 30 AD versus the fall of 3 BC using 32 AD for the birth of Jesus.

The vast majority of the evidence points to Pontius Pilate dying in March or early April of 4 BC, which again fits 30 AD.  Research of records of when the census was called for by Rome shows one in 6 BC and then the next one in 6 AD.  For Joseph and Mary to have traveled to Bethlehem one year later in 5 BC for the census in this community sounds perfectly reasonable, while a delay of two more years to give us a year of 3 BC seems less reasonable.

So, in the end, while Sir Robert Anderson created a groundbreaking classic, 32 AD appears to be 2 years after the crucifixion.  The Messiah was the Messiah at conception not at crucifixion, or when He rode into Jerusalem on the first day of that week.  And Sir Robert Anderson had no basis for adding together the 62 weeks and the 7 weeks as there are two comings of Messiah because Jesus Christ declared before He died that He was coming again.

Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.  John 16:28

And so did the Angel:

Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.  Acts 1:11

We have covered the origin of adding together the 62 and 7 weeks with no gap to come up with 69 weeks.  Then there is placed a gap, the Times of the Gentiles, between just the 69th and the 70th week.  What about those who teach the 62, 7, and 1 week should all be added together with no gaps between them?  Then a new gap, a different gap not mentioned in Daniel 9:25 is introduced half way through the 70th week.  In between the 69 ½ weeks and the last ½ week they insert the Times of the Gentiles.  Where does that come from?  Well, it comes from skipping ahead and looking at Daniel 9:27 and comparing that with the choices for dates to begin the count of the 70 weeks.

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.  Daniel 9:27

We have one week.  Since Daniel 9:25 explained the 62 and 7 weeks, this is assumed to explain the 1 week which makes a total of 70.  Then the word “midst” is taken to mean the exact middle with 3 ½ weeks on either side.

Let’s first take a look at the choices of dates we have to begin the 70 week count:

539 BC – (Ezra 1:1-4 & 4:6-13) King Cyrus allowed the Israelites to return to the land and rebuild their temple in Jerusalem.  However this rebuilding is stopped due to false witnesses

520 BC – (Ezra 6:8-12) King Darius allowed the Israelites to complete the rebuilding of their temple in Jerusalem

457 BC – (Ezra 7:11-28) King Artaxerxes allowed Ezra authority to lead the nation in the Laws of God

445 BC – (Nehemiah 2:1-9) King Artaxerxes in his 20th year allowed Nehemiah to leave for the purpose of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, appointing him Governor of Judah

433 BC – (Nehemiah 5:14 & 6:15 & 13:6) Governor of Judah, Nehemiah, had prepared material and people and in the 32nd year of King Artexerxes starts rebuilding wall, completing the wall in 52 days on Elul 25 and then returning to King Artaxerxes the same year.  More details are:

Now, judiciously taking 457 BC and adding together the 62 and 7 weeks to get 69 weeks, and then interpreting these to be solar years instead of 360-day years we have 457 BC + 69 * 7 = 457 BC + 483 years = 27 AD (no 0 AD).  This we would take as the end of the 69th week and the start of the 70th week.  At this point we would be forced to make this interpretation work to say Jesus became Christ / Messiah, when He was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit in the fall of 27 AD to fulfill Daniel 9:25.  Then to fulfill Daniel 9:27, at this same time, Jesus confirmed a covenant for 7 solar years.

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week..

The problem is no where in the Bible do we see described that Jesus Christ confirmed a covenant with many that was to last 7 solar years.  We do have Jesus Christ confirming the covenant God made with man which was to last for 7 times or 7,000 years.  We could also make a case that Jesus confirmed a covenant with many when He rode into Jerusalem triumphantly as Messiah on Palm Sunday and it last 7 days, ending the 8th day when the God-Man was resurrected from the dead by God the Father.

..and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease…

Now in the midst of these 7,000 years, God did indeed cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease.  This happened in 70 AD when the temple was destroyed.  Now again it could be argued that in the middle of the 7 day Passion week, that Wednesday at the 9th hour of the day, around 2:30 PM, when Jesus Christ gave up His ghost and the temple curtain was torn asunder, the REASON for having the sacrifice and the oblation ceased.

So we can make a case for confirming a covenant for 7 days and 7,000 years.  Interestingly a day is like a thousand years to God.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  II Peter 3:8

But it is very difficult to make a case for Jesus Christ confirming a covenant for 7 years based on the Bible.  But saying we do.  Adding 3 ½ solar years to the fall of 27 AD we arrive at the Spring of 31 AD.  Okay, we were shooting for 30 AD but we are within a year and with inclusive reasoning and not knowing exactly when in 457 BC Ezra led the nation in the laws of God, close enough.  And there you have it.  All except the last ½ a week of Daniel’s 70 weeks have been accounted for.  Or so the story goes.

But let’s get back to an explanation that to me makes more sense:  Again, referring back to Daniel 9:25.

Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.  Daniel 9:25

We have discussed how Cyrus before 500 BC allowed Israel to RETURN to their land but did not RESTORE Jerusalem to IsraelJerusalem was still under the sovereignty of Cyrus.  Likewise Nehemiah was given the authority in 445 BC to go to Jerusalem for rebuilding the wall.

And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.  Nehemiah 2:1

And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it.  Nehemiah 2:5

And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.   Nehemiah 2:6

However it wasn’t until 433 BC as Governor of Judah that Nehemiah commanded the rebuilding of the wall and it was built in 52 short days and he was able to leave Jerusalem and go back to the king, having accomplished his mission.

Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.  Nehemiah 5:14

So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.  Nehemiah 6:15

But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king:  Nehemiah 13:6

Adding 62 weeks of 360-days to 433 BC we arrive at 5 BC.  This is right on the dot as to when the Virgin Mary would have been ANOINTED with the Word of God and conceived through the power of the Holy Ghost, the MESSIAH.  Hallelujah!

Now many expect Jesus Christ to have been born on Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, when the Light of the World came into the world and the light was no longer hidden from the world in Mary’s womb.  Does the date counting backward from 6/7/1967 exactly 2000 times 360 days which is -4 February 20 Gr, (5 BC) fit?  Well, adding 40 weeks for the fullness of time, the fullness of pregnancy, which is 280 days to this date we arrive at:

5 BC:  Birth date (Tuesday, -4 November 26 Gr, -680072 MJ, 3757 Kislev 28 He, 7.17.14.10.6 MLC)

Now Hanukkah is an 8 day event, celebrating 8 days that oil for the temple that was only enough to last for one day, lasted.  The 9 fingered Menorah is used to count off each day with the center candle, the servant candle, used to light each day.  The first day is Kislev 25.  The fourth day is Kislev 28.  With Jesus born the fourth day, the Jews would have come to the position of the servant candle on the fourth day, the date of His birth.  Jesus IS the servant candle.  Jesus was BORN in the midst of Hanukkah.  Hallelujah!

I realize that without the Bible specifying that Jesus was born on any certain date there is no way to prove from scripture the date He was born.  We would need only to allow sufficient time for Herod to give the command to kill the babies up to two years of age around Judea before his death in late March early April, 4 BC.  This date suffices.  While some have researched that sheep were not kept out in winter in Judea, others have researched that the sacrificial lambs near Jerusalem were kept out year round.  And technically this would have been almost a full month before the beginning of winter.  It is mathematically interesting though that there are exactly 280 days between Kislev 25 in 6 BC and Tishri 10 in 5 BC.

Conception date based on the 1st day of Hanukkah (Monday, -5 December 4 Gr, -680430 MJ, 3756 Kislev 25 He, 7.17.13.10.8 MLC)

+ 280 Days

Birth date based on conception date based on the 1st day of Hanukkah (Sunday, -4 September 9 Gr, -680150 MJ, 3757 Tishri 10 He, 7.17.14.6.8 MLC)

And mathematically interesting indeed gives us cause to ponder in the absence of specific dates in the Bible.  God of course may have left the date unspecified so future generations would not to have been able to calculate and know beforehand the exact date of 6/7/1967 for the end of the times of the Gentiles.  This knowledge may have been sealed.  Fortunately, He gave us Daniel’s 70 week prophecy so we could calculate the exact date of 9/23/2015 for His return.

Rachel weeping for her children

In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.  Matthew 2:18

Israel’s 62 weeks were up with the conception of Messiah.  This ending was marked by the murder of many of Israel’s children.

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.  Matthew 2:16

This ending also started the times of the Gentiles.  The Gentile’s two times were up with Jerusalem no longer belonging to the domain of the Gentiles.

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.  Luke 21:24

This ending and beginning was also marked by the murder of many of the Gentile’s children.  Some claim this was the result of the 60’s free drugs and free sex lifestyle among the youth.  But the bottom line was that so many illegal murder of babies were being conducted in the United States at that time there was a push to legalize those murders.  This resulted in the legalization of some of those murders in January 1973 with the Roe vs. Wade decision, 6 years and 7 months after 6/7/1967, for any murder conducted within a window of 7 months after conception.

Can it be any coincidence that at the heart of the Babylon Mystery Religion was child murder?

GOD HATES MURDER!

But back to Daniel’s 70 weeks.

Daniel 9:25 Summary

Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment

to restore

and to build

Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be

seven weeks,

and threescore and two weeks:

the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.  Daniel 9:25

So Messiah came 62 weeks after the commandment to BUILD Jerusalem by an Israelite.  In fulfillment of the rest of Daniel 9:25 we can then expect Messiah to come again 7 weeks after the commandment to RESTORE Jerusalem by an Israelite.  In between this 62 and 7 weeks we have the Dispensation of Grace, the Church Age, the times of the Gentiles.

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.  Luke 21:24

We have confirmation by Jesus Christ’s own words that the times of the Gentiles would end when Jerusalem was no longer trodden down by the Gentiles.  Then the commandment to RESTORE Jerusalem to Israel by Israel shall have come to pass and the 7 week countdown of 360 days to the return of our Messiah Jesus Christ will have begun.

Daniel 9:26

And after threescore and two weeks

shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself:

and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city

and the sanctuary;

and the end thereof shall be with a flood,

and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.  Daniel 9:26

Notice that Daniel 9:26 states “after threescore and two weeks”.  Daniel does not state after threescore and nine weeks.  Nor does Daniel state after threescore and nine ½ weeks.  That is a tremendous problem for those who add the 62 and 7 weeks together to get 69 weeks and for those who then go ahead and add another half a week to get 69 ½ weeks to when Messiah was cut off.  The scripture doesn’t say these items happen after 69 weeks nor does it say these items happen after 69 ½ weeks.  Scripture states these items happen after 62 weeks.  We clearly have 8 weeks still to be fulfilled in the 70 weeks when these items occur.

Let’s go through these items:

shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself:

Messiah was cut off from God the Father at His death in 30 AD.  But He was not cut off for the sake of Himself, but for the sake of all mankind, when He took upon Himself sin who knew no sin, the sin of man, to be the perfect blemish-free sacrifice for our sins.

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?  Mark 15:34

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.  Hebrews 9:28

The next item is:

and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city

The people, Roman Legions under the command of Titus, came and destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD.  Titus was the son of Emperor Vespasian, making him the prince.

and the sanctuary;

The sanctuary, the great temple built by Herod, was greatly desired by Titus not to be destroyed during the siege of 70 AD.  However, his wishes did not come to pass as Jesus had already prophesied the complete destruction of the sanctuary.

And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.  And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.  Matthew 24:1-2

and the end thereof shall be with a flood,

During the siege, there was a flood of pilgrims from around the world into Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover.  Titus let them in to Jerusalem.  Titus did not let them leave.  His strategy was to overwhelm the water and food supplies within the city while cutting off the supplies from outside the city.  It worked, and it led to mass starvation and the end of Jerusalem.

and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.  Daniel 9:26

Jerusalem was indeed made desolate in 70 AD.  According to Josephus, 2 ½ million were assembled for the Passover just before Titus took the city.  Over 1.3 million perished.
