A song for pilgrims ascending to
. A psalm of David. Jerusalem
Lord, my heart is not proud;
my eyes are not haughty.
I don’t concern myself with matters too great
or too awesome for me to grasp.
Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself,
like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk.
Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
O Israel, put your hope in the Lord—
now and always.
What a wonderful picture this is. Can you see it ? Baby is no longer fussing and crying.
Mother's milk has nourished the little one. Given her food to sustain and grow her until she is now fully
content and at rest. The little one is ready to enter into a new phase of life. She will begin to eat of the
fruits, meats, vegetables, and grains, that her maturing body was designed for. This is not only for sustenance,
but pleasure as well. God's intended purpose.
As watchmen and believers in Christ, we are being weaned as well. From the nourishment that is/was needed in this life
to what we will soon experience in eternity. It will be new, fresh, alive, and glorious. Yet, like a weaned baby, we will
forever rest in the arms of Jesus. How faithful He has been to nourish us right to the end. Even when we were
fussing and crying, He has always been faithful to give us our nourishment. He has never withheld. So we can now assume
a posture of rest knowing He is coming o' so soon to take us home. Take some time to be still, unplug, and rest in Abba's
arms. We have done well. We really have. We have been tried and tested and always come back to Jesus knowing there is
no other. There is nothing but love admiration for us from our Lord. The time has come. Enter His rest.
We will soon be home!
