"Re: The problem of Lot offering his daughters to the mob"
Dear Rowina,
Scripture is not a complete record of everything that
transpired. God is not unrighteous, it is just that sometimes we may perceive
this to be the case, simply because of the limited information that we have
before we reach a conclusion. The solution is to ask God sincerely for the
answer and then patiently wait for the answer.
Many years ago, I had a
big problem with Abraham being prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac, reasoning
that today we would never accept such an action, so why should it be acceptable
and even revered when someone was prepared to do this in the biblical past. My
problem was that I never asked God for the answer, so it was about 10 years
later that I received the explanation from Him - it was all there even in the
scripture, God just opened my eyes to see it:
1. Isaac was prophesied
to have children
Gen 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall
bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish
my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after
him.
2. Isaac was to be sacrificed before he had any
children:
Gen 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only
son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer
him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell
thee of.
So the answer is that Abraham knew that Isaac would somehow
still be alive even after the sacrifice, because God had already told that Isaac
would have descendants. That was in Abraham's heart, so he was not a murderer,
but just had extreme faith in God. The apostles knew that Abraham believed that
Isaac would have been resurrected after the sacrifice. Even the Rabbi's today
don't know about this.
Heb 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was
tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his
only begotten son,
Heb 11:18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall
thy seed be called:
Heb 11:19 Accounting that God was able to raise
him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a
figure.
Heb 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it
was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled
for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
It is the same with
Ishmael and Isaac - it was not because of Sarah's jealousy but because of her
knowing about Ishmael's nasty character, that Ishmael and Hagar were sent away.
Gen 21:9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian,
which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.
Gen 21:10 Wherefore
she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this
bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
So it must be
the same with Lot - there is some information that we are not aware of, that
explains Lot's actions - you must ask the Lord why, wait for the answer, and
then let us know what He says about it. He is not an unrighteous God.
Eze 18:29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the LORD is
not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways
unequal?
in Jesus' Name,
