Don't Hold the Offense
Today's message is from Fuchsia Pickett.
Offense may be the strongest weapon the enemy uses to divide the church. According to Jesus, we cannot live in this world without experiencing offense. He declared: “It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!” (Luke 17:1, KJV). Though we are promised that offenses will come, it is not the offense itself, but our reaction to it, that determines our future. There are no walls that we can build against offense so that we will never be hurt. God will help us to respond correctly when offenses come. As we put aside our pride, we can humbly forgive those who offend us. God can change hurtful situations into blessings that will result in godly character, making us more humble and less self-centered.
Jesus said, “And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me” (Luke 7:23, KJV). Though we would not admit readily to being offended with Jesus, to nurse offense against His people is to be offended with Him.
It is vital to walk in forgiveness with our brothers and sisters in Christ, keeping short accounts, so that we will not be ensnared by the devastating consequences of nursing offense. Jesus lives in the hearts of our brothers and sisters. The Scriptures tell us, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matt. 25:40, KJV).
