High Court throws out animal rights petition against 'beast parade'

The High Court of Justice dismissed a petition filed by the 'Let Animals Live' organization against the 'Beast Parade' expected to take place Thursday afternoon as haredi march animals through Jerusalem in protest of the upcoming pride parade.

 

"It is needless to say how important the right to protest is to a democratic country," the judges wrote in their verdict which indicated that they did not see the parade as harmful to the animals.
 
Gay Parade Protesters Attack & Stone Jerusalem Mayor
 
On Tuesday night, a group attacked and stoned Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski, himself an Ultra-Orthodox Jew who has also called for the parade to be cancelled.

Police had to escort the mayor out of a banquet hall in Jerusalem's ultra-Orthodox Mea She'arim neighbourhood, after he was pelted with stones by angry anti-march demonstrators.
