CHINA, EGYPT AGREE ON NUKE COOPERATIONhttp://www.menewsline.com/stories/2006/november/11_10_4.html
CAIRO [MENL] -- China and Egypt have agreed on nuclear cooperation that could ensure that the Asian superpower heads a program to supply nuclear reactors to the Arab state. The two countries agreed on nuclear cooperation in a statement during the visit to Beijing by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Nov. 7. Mubarak and his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, issued a joint communique at the end of talks that included military and civilian nuclear cooperation.
"This gives Egypt another option and reduces dependency on the United States," an Egyptian government analyst said.
The Chinese-Egyptian accord was not detailed in the communique. But Egyptian sources said Beijing -- which has also assisted Iran's nuclear program -- would send a delegation to examine Egypt's nuclear requirements and offer proposals for nuclear reactors to generate electricity as well as research facilities.
