We have to be careful to not look with subjective reasoning in deciding who might be the one based on their current popularity and direct power now.  For this reason some propose Javier Solana or Bill Clinton as candidates.
 
The only criteria we should go by are the Biblical ones.  The Bible gives you the requirements to identify the man in Revelation 13, before he performs Daniel 9:27's halting of the sacrifices and setting up of a statue of himself in their place.
 
1. the "number of his name" "calculates" to "666"
2. he is somehow related or represented as a strange beast with feet of a bear, body of a leopard, etc.
 
These criteria happen to literally fit the world's most influential, most popular, most covered in the media, most well known man alive today.
