Doves;
I’ve sometimes wondered if there was any one thing, or couple of
things which served to provoke God to Anger so sufficient so as to destroy
the world by flood.
I’ve also wondered if there was any basis, even flimsy, to give
even the merest credence to some of the “monsters” found in Greek mythology
and legends.
Looking first at our scriptures we have from the Masoretic text
(Majority Hebrew – Ben Asher) Genesis 6:4-8 “There
were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons
of God
came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them.
Those were the mighty
men who were of old, men of renown.
5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man
was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts
of his heart was only evil continually. 6
And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved
in His heart. 7 So the LORD said, “I will destroy
man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast,
creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.””.
In the same tractate the Septuagint Genesis 6:4-8 “And
the Lord God said, My Spirit shall certainly not remain among these men
for ever, because they are flesh, but their days shall be an hundred and
twenty years. 5 Now the giants
were upon the earth in those days; and after that when the angels
(Alexandria
Codex)
were wont to go in to the daughters of men, they bore children
to them, those were the giants of old, the
men of renown. 6 And
the Lord God, having seen that the wicked actions of men were multiplied
upon the earth, and that every one in his heart was intently brooding
over evil continually, 7 then God laid it to heart that he had made man
upon the earth, and he pondered it deeply. 8 And God said, I will
blot out man whom I have made from the face of the earth, even man with
cattle, and reptiles with flying creatures of the sky, for I am
grieved that I have made them.”.
The
initial offending act seems to have come when angels (no doubt fallen
angels, as these are some of the ones condemned by Enoch in his writings.{Not
written by Enoch but contains an account of him: Book of Jubilees 4;:2-24
“And
he testified to the Watchers, who had sinned with the daughters of men;
for these had begun to unite themselves, so as to be defiled, with the
daughters of men, and Enoch testified against (them) all. And
he was taken from amongst the children of men, and we conducted him into
the Garden of Eden in majesty and honour, and behold there he writes down
the condemnation and judgment of the world, and all the wickedness of
the children of men. And on
account of it (God) brought the waters of the flood upon all the land
of Eden;
for there he was set as a sign and that he should testify against all
the children of men, that he should recount all the deeds of the generations
until the day of condemnation.”}).
This
genetic manipulation further produced giants, perhaps each generation
becoming more “diminutive”, until Goliath (a handbreadth plus 6 cubits,
6 toes on each foot, 6 fingers on each hand --- 666, satan’s man on the
battlefield!).
It
is quite feasible that the Greeks saw these “men of renown” and gave them
names, like Hercules, Neptune, The Colossus of Rhodes etc. I’m not saying
the stories about them are true, but just the fact that the Greeks may
have seen giants, like Moses’ 12 spies, who spied out the Holy
land.
But
what, beside the corruption of the human genome, with some sort of fallen
angelic being, would have added to the necessity to start anew with Noah?
(who was perfect in his generations). Two Para biblical books offer some
interesting possibilities. Book of Jasher 2:19-22 “19
For in those days the sons of men began to trespass against God, and to
transgress the commandments which he had commanded to Adam, to be fruitful
and multiply in the earth.
20 And some of the sons of
men caused their wives to drink a draught that would render them barren,
in order that they might retain their figures and whereby their beautiful
appearance might not fade.
21 And when the sons of men caused some of their wives to drink, Zillah
drank with them.
22 And the child-bearing women appeared abominable in the sight of their
husbands as widows, whilst their husbands lived, for to the barren ones
only they were attached.”.
In
the above portion we saw men and women engaging in contraception and sterilization,
both of which are highly practiced around the world today, as well as
abortion. In the next passage we see genetic manipulation, the crossbreeding
of man with other species:
Book
of Jasher 61:15-16 “15
And Zepho went and he saw and behold there was a large cave at the bottom
of the mountain, and there was a great stone there at the entrance of
the cave, and Zepho split the stone and he came into the cave and he
looked and behold, a large animal was devouring the ox; from the middle
upward it resembled a man, and from the middle downward it resembled an
animal, and Zepho rose up against the animal and slew it with
his swords.
16 And the inhabitants of Chittim heard of this thing, and they rejoiced
exceedingly, and they said, What shall we do unto this man who has slain
this animal that devoured our cattle?”.
Half
man, half animal, it sounds like the Greek Centaur creature. It seems
like mankind is trying to create a man with gills so he can deep sea dive
without air tanks. Crossing the genetics of an owl’s eyesight with man’s
eyesight to produce a man (warrior) with “built-in” night vision. All
manner of genetic manipulation seems to be at our fingertips.
Summing
it up, the Flood was due largely in part due to man’s corruption (by fallen
angelic beings and corruption of his own devices), wickedness, unwillingness
to obey God, contraception, sterilization (including perhaps infant sacrifices),
mixing of animal and human genetics. Plus we are back to one language
---- binary. Once an English, French, Arabic or Oriental computer keyboard
it pressed, its all a matter of 1’s and 0’s binary language.
At
first God said ‘let us make man in our image’. In a zenith of arrogance,
spite and pride we are now saying to God, through our technology, ‘We
will make man in OUR own image;. May the Lord in His abundant mercy forgive
us.
It
certainly seems that time is “necking down” to a few short years.
