"apocryphal books"

Dear John and Doves,
I just want to agree with TEFE that interest in the books of the Bible that were not included in our currently standard Bibles is not a bad thing, but potentially edifying and enlightening.  It is simply good scholarship to examine works in context, to see patterns of development of ideas and the exposition of truths that often become more clear when seen in this light.
Aren't the days of "heresy" and frightful inquisition over?  I respect the development of individuals in their respective personal faiths, and praise God that I live in a country where freedom of religion abounds.  Granted, I don't want to see people led down dastardly roads, and I do see that some people are easily led astray, but sometimes such thoughts are what keep people mindful of what they truly believe, with glimmers of truth shining through.
Life is a long, long road for a soul, with other souls close by that are just as individually inclined to find meaning and truth.  Lord, help us that we often shut our eyes to others, dismissing them when we do not share their perspective.  God has blessed us with discernment and the ability to trust, and we pray that our trust be well-directed.  In any case we've got to pray, and trust God above all!
Thank you TEFE for your fascinating submissions to this forum.  I may be the only one interested, but I don't want you to feel ostracized or have your feelings hurt or never post here again!  I hope that John agrees as I respectfully submit this bit of communication on  this beloved forum that is so cool for us like-minded rapture watching folk.
Because, Doves, isn't the soon return of our Lord who will set everything aright what we are discussing here?  I think that it is; and the neat thing about the Internet is that we don't have to read what we disagree with!  Those people that were writing about Christ in the beginning of Christianity wrestled and struggled as much as we here, because the truth is often difficult to grasp in our little minds and hearts.
    In peace,
    Susan
