The European Union has agreed to monitor the Gaza-Egypt Rafah border crossing and train Palestinian police forces. The decision follows Israeli and Palestinian requests for an EU presence at the border. While the PA wants the EU border mission to be strictly advisory, Israel wants the mission to have the final say over border checks. Israel, concerned about terrorists and weapons, also wants to monitor traffic via closed-circuit television.
