RAMALLAH [MENL] -- The Palestinian Authority has rejected an Egyptian-Israeli agreement for security measures at the Rafah border crossing.Palestinian sources said PA negotiators have dismissed Israeli demands for the installation of cameras and sensors that would provide Israel with real-time monitoring capability of the Rafah terminal. The sources said Israel would not be permitted any presence or direct monitoring of the facility, located in the southern Gaza Strip along the border with Egypt .
"The facility would be operated as any other international crossing point," a PA official said. "The Israelis would not have any privileges."
Israel has agreed to an Egyptian proposal that the Jewish state concede on a physical presence in Rafah. Instead, the proposal called on the European Union to send personnel to monitor the flow of Palestinians to and from the Gaza Strip.
