Does merely reciting the Apostle's Creed make someone
a Christian??

Here is the creed:

1. I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of
heaven and earth:

[The devils agree: James 2:19 "Thou believest that
there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also
believe, and tremble."]

2. And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our
Lord:

[The devils agree: Mark 1:23,24 "And there was in
their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he
cried out, saying, Let us alone: what have we do to
with Thee, Thou Jesus of Nazareth? art Thou come to
destroy us? I know Thee who Thou art, the Holy One of
God."; ]

3. Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary:

[Thd devils agree: Luke 11:26-27 "Then goeth he, and
taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than
himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the
last state of that man is worse than the first. And it
came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain
woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said
unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the
paps which thou hast sucked."]

4. Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead
and buried: He descended into hell: 5. The third day
he rose again from the dead:

[Devils agree: Acts 19:15-16 "And the evil spirit
answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but
who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was
leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed
against them, so that they fled out of that house
naked and wounded."]

6. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand
of God the Father Almighty:

[Devils agree: Mark 5:6-7 ""But when he saw Jesus afar
off, he ran and worshipped him. And cried with a loud
voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus,
thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God,
that thou torment me not."]

7. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and
the dead:

[The devils agree: Matthew 8:29. "And, behold, they
cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee,
Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to
torment us before the time?"

8. I believe in the Holy Ghost:

[so do devils]

9. I believe in the holy catholic (i.e., universal)
church: the communion of saints:

[so do devils]

10. The forgiveness of sins:

[devils know all about this, and accuse men of sins,
and produce false religion with false hope of
forgivenss to keep men from true salvation.]

1l. The resurrection of the body:

[so do devils believe]

12. And the life everlasting. Amen.

[everlasting, but in hell.]

So although it all sounds orthodox, take notice that
every devil in hell can recite the Apostes' creed
without any reservation:

Reciting creeds does not mean you are a Christian!

Notice the creed does not say "Jesus Christ died for
my sins"? That is the crux of the GOSPEL, and it does
not exist in the creed. A person must believe in the
heart that all his sins were paid for by Jesus Christ
on cross, and he must call upon Jesus Christ as Lord,
in order to be saved. That is the gospel. Only the
person who believes the gospel is a Christian and has
assurance of salvation.
