Back in the early NT period Gentile converts were
often "wowed" by Jewish believers running around to
Paul's churches telling everyone how Paul was wrong
about a gospel based on faith alone. This caused a lot
of confusion. After all, these impressive religious
Jews could speak Hebrew and seemed to know the OT
Bible just as much as Paul. But they are the Judiazers! Beware all self-conceited
Jews that would put yokes on the Bride of Christ.
(Philipians 3:2-3) Paul and John both attacked these
phony hypocrites tooth and nail, and they warned the
Churches to kick out these vagabond Jews and not to
receive them, "neither bid them God speed" (2 John
10-11).Thank God for the wonderful heritage of God's word
that he has given to us through the Jewish nation.
(Romans 3:2) One day God will again turn back to his
people - but today they are totally blind. All their
superstitious tradition, fables, Talmud, mishna, and
all their other baggage of religious fairy tales are
to be ignored by us ("Not giving heed to Jewish
fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the
truth." Titus 1:14). Paul called their false religion
"the Jew's religion" to contrast it with the truth of
Christianity (Galations 1:13). Jesus said they are the
"blind leaders of the blind." (Matthew 15:14)Let's not be impressed when someone throw a few Hebrew
phrases around. Let us hold fast the Gospel of Grace
given to us as the Bride of Christ under the confirmed
covenant our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ which was
purchased for us at Calvary by his blood. We do not
need to do one single cotton-picking good deed to earn
our salvation, other than to believe (John 6:28-29).
That is our dispensational gift in Christ - he did all
the work.Knowledge of arcane writings puffs some people up.
Occasionally an orthodox Jew comes to realize that
Jesus Christ is the messiah, and such persons, unless
they are rooted firmly in the faith expounded in the
New Testament, may fall into a trap of combining the
law and grace together into a works-based religion.
Even Peter was guilty of compromise on this issue, and
was reprimanded by Paul for his hypocrisy. (Galations
2:11-17) Paul made it very clear that all this was
done away with in Christ - Christians are not bound to
the commandments of the Old Testament period (prior to
the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ). It is a
sin for any such Jew to lay burdens on Gentile
believers by pretending to expound "hidden truths"
from discarded Jewish legends.Matt
