"RE: Apostles"
Brother Frank,
I agree with you that the apostles ministry has been
corrupted by many using it to promote ideas, doctrines or self, nevertheless
it does not make God's gift to the church untrue.
There are also teachers, pastors and evangelists that
have made a mockery of these ministries yet it does not invalidate that
truth that God has set such offices in the church.
There were false prophets in the day of Jeremiah did
that make Jeremiah's ministry false? In fact Jeremiah was one of a very,
very few that were indeed speaking the truth all the rest were speaking
lies.
Does that mean the ministry of the prophet should have
no longer existed thus making Jeremiah's ministry invalid? No.
The bible tells us that there will be false teachers
(2 Peter 2:1), false pastors (John 10:11-12), false evangelists (Gal. 1:9),
false prophets (1 John 4:1) and false apostles (Rev. 2:2). Should we therefore
ignore that which God has set in the church because the devil tries to
corrupt that which God has established? No.
God has established the ministries for the equipping
and perfecting of the church...and until that takes place the church needs
all the ministries.
The true ministries.
There are true apostles, men who build up the church
at the risk of their own lives. Who fast and pray often that the church
would be fully equipped to do the work of Christ. Who humble themselves
not seeking glory, fame or wealth but rather support themselves by the
work of their hands and distribute to the saints out of their own pockets
what they themselves have lacked.
These are the true apostles and as Jim Bramlett said
they are the ones that don't use the title but truly fulfill the call.
There is a remnant. They are few not many, they are weak
in themselves and not strong, they may be slow of speech and nothing special
to look upon...but they are of God.
Bless you brother Frank,
John Johnson
