Dallas Church Says It Will Continue to 'Marry' Same-Sex CouplesA church in Texas known as "the world's largest lesbian and gay church" said Wednesday it plans to continue to "marry" same-sex couples despite voters' overwhelming approval for a state law banning homosexual marriage. "The Cathedral of Hope has been marrying same-sex couples for 35 years, and we will continue to do so," said Rev. Dr. Jo Hudson, rector and senior pastor of the Cathedral, which is based in Dallas. The church said the voter-approved constitutional amendment, known as the Texas Marriage Amendment, "will enshrine discrimination" in the state's constitution by defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. "Constitutional Amendment Two cannot and will not stop us from offering God's blessing upon a loving relationship between two people of the same gender," said Hudson. "Unfortunately, what we can not offer them are the more than 1,100 civil rights and protections that are offered the opposite-sex couples that we also marry," Hudson concluded.
