FRANCE
In a letter to French Justice Minister Dominique Perben, the Center's Director for International Liaison, Dr. Shimon Samuels, and its Secretary-General for France, Richard Odier, called on France "to investigate the circumstances of the false and incomplete registration of Arafat's death certificate, to correct the erroneous details of his birthplace, to add the truth of his parentage, as well as the cause of his death."This after learning that the death certificate issued by the Clamart municipality on November 11, 2004, stated that the late Yassir Arafat was born in Al-Qods/Jerusalem on 3/8/1929 of father and mother names unknown when in fact Alan Hart, Arafat's official biographer, as well as the Egyptian authorities, acknowledge Arafat's birthplace as Cairo. Moreover, the death certificate makes no mention of the cause of death and, according to Samuels, duplicity by the hospital in diagnosing and naming his illness has unleashed conspiratorial charges of assassination (by poison) that can only exacerbate further violence in the Middle East.
