By Their Fruits, Ye Shall Know Them
by Jack KinsellaKofi Annan apologized to the Palestinians for being unable to personally
attend Yasser Arafat's funeral, saying he would send Terje Roed-Larsen to
represent him instead.Terje Roed-Larsen is among the most pro-Palestinian among the UN
hierarchy, and has regularly criticized Israel for using
'disproportionate' force in response to suicide bombings, which, to
Roed-Larsen, is evidently 'proportionate'.Testifying before the Security Council last year, Roed-Larsen condemned
Israel for "the frequency with which such operations were carried out
with disproportionate force in densely populated civilian areas, killing
and injuring civilian bystanders in contravention of international
humanitarian law."The Palestinians using targeted human bombs packed with explosives and
shrapnel at bus stops, markets and civilian buses that are aimed
exclusively against Israeli women and children received no similar words
of criticism. Roed-Larsen is the perfect choice to represent the United
Nations at the funeral of the world's longest-lived active terrorist. The UN ordered its flags flown at half-staff to honor the only man to ever
address the UN from the podium while openly brandishing a handgun as he
offered the world a choice between 'an olive branch in one hand, and a gun
in the other'.Although the 'offer' was indistinguishable from that offered by Osama
bin-Laden, "Surrender or die!" -- because it targeted Israel, the UN
applauded politely. It is important to note that the world leaders who praised Arafat don't
necessarily represent the views of 100% of their population. But it is
equally important to note that they were presumably elected by a majority
vote.If John Kerry had been elected instead of George Bush, John Kerry's views
would not necessarily represent my own, but it WOULD, by definition,
represent the majority of the voters who put him there. And in any case, the world leaders who came to praise Arafat did so
openly. They said what they said, ignoring the stolen billions, the
thousands of deaths and the four decades of terror that Yasser Arafat
embodied, because it is not politically correct -- or particularly smart
to antagonize the Palestinians or appear to be pro-Israel.German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's regret that, "it was not granted to
Yasser Arafat to complete his life's work" was made with the full
knowledge that Yasser Arafat was responsible for the kidnapping and murder
of eleven Israeli athletes at the Olympic Games hosted by Germany in
1972.THAT was Arafat's 'life's work' -- killing Jews.
Assessment:
I got up this morning at four AM to watch Yasser Arafat's funeral in
Egypt, attended by representatives from more than forty Arab and Islamic
countries as well as dozens of officials representing the EU and UN.The coffin was carried by Egyptian pallbearers and fitted on a cannon
carriage pulled by six black horses. British Foreign Minister Jack Straw,
Spanish Foreign Minister and former European envoy to the Middle East
Miguel Angel Moratinos attended, as did France's top diplomat, Michel
Barnier.(The United States sent relatively low-ranking Middle East envoy William
Burns.)It was an incredible sight. All these world leaders and diplomats,
gathered together on an Egyptian tarmac, to bid farewell to a murderous
terrorist -- whose terror STILL extends beyond the grave -- as if he were
an honored statesman.WorldNet daily reported this morning that Arafat left instructions upon
his death for a wave of terror attacks and disruptions to coincide with
his funeral, ostensibly to prevent Israel from having a hand in developing
a moderate Palestinian leadership to replace him.By the time Arafat's body arrived in Ramallah, it was apparent that
Arafat's final orders were being heeded. The crowds gathering around
Arafat's burial place were so large and unruly that the Palestinian
leadership canceled a planned grave-side funeral service. A car bomb blew
up a few miles from Ramallah at the moment Arafat's helicopter touched
down.Palestinian security forces that surrounded Arafat's burial place were not
armed. But the majority of the crowd WAS, and ignored pleas from PA
leaders NOT to storm Arafat's compound.Palestinian paramedics carrying stretchers ran frantically near the
Mukata's entrance, aiding what appeared to be dozens of demonstrators
injured by the mob.As soon as it landed, Arafat's helicopter was immediately mobbed by the
Palestinians in the compound, as thousands of bullets fired into the air
rained back down on the crowd. Although it was only fifty yards from the
helicopter to the burial site, the path was blocked by the hysterical,
gun-toting mob.Fox News's Jennifer Griffin described the scene as one of absolute
chaos -- indeed, there was a tangible note of fear in her voice as she
spoke. In one of the more bizarre scenes (in a sea of bizarre scenes) was the
spectacle of an SUV backing through the crowd in an effort to retrieve
Arafat's body (and running over anybody unfortunate enough to be in its
path in the process -- you could actually SEE the vehicle bump and lurch
like it was driving over rocks -- but they were people)It was truly a lurid spectacle, befitting its guest of honor. It's
unknown how many people the dead terrorist took with him as the truck
carrying his coffin ran over mourners who couldn't get out of its way
while PA security officials SAT on his coffin to keep it from being
snatched by the crowd.Yasser Arafat presided over the destruction of every square yard of land
Israel surrendered to his control. While his people struggled with 50%
unemployment, violence, poverty and deprivation, he lined his own pockets
with billions in international aid.Aid that was being donated expressly to relieve Palestinian suffering. He
stole it, everybody knows he stole it, and they know how much the loss of
those billions was responsible for their current suffering.Arafat, more than any other person alive, bore direct responsibility for
the decades of Palestinian suffering -- suffering Arafat deliberately
exacerbated and perpetuated in order to maintain world sympathy for his
cause. But all those crimes are forgotten by both world leaders and his own
people. He was feted as a 'statesman' despite the blood on his hands, and
as a dedicated leader despite the stolen billions hidden away in numbered
Swiss bank accounts. The UN flew its flag at half-staff for Yasser Arafat,
but not for Ronald ReaganWhy is that? Because Arafat never wavered from his original goal. The
destruction of Israel and its replacement with an Arab state with its
capital in Jerusalem.Yasser Arafat was carried to his grave while the mob chanted, "To
Jerusalem! To Jerusalem!""And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people:
all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the
people of the earth be gathered together against it." (Zechariah 12:3)
