"Response to Phil and Sherry"
Dear Sherry
I appreciate when you and Phil post comments and observations
from scripture and try to tie them to current events. Both of you,
it is my opinion, bring forward insights you have gleaned by listening
to the Spirit, especially when you reference scripture. I look forward
to seeing more of your posts.
I am disappointed by some comments that were made in
Phil's post and your recent post as well. I do not think you know
enough of others to make the conclusions you do about their motives based
upon how an outward choice(s) did not meet your expectations.
I am grateful to God that during these difficult times
I have access to the internet and that there are websites such as five-doves
where believers can talk openly about how they are making sense of scripture
concerning the return of Jesus and how it might be reflected in current
events. I wish I had many at my church who were this open.
I think a problem that arises in these types of websites,
however, is that even though we get to know each other in some ways, we
really do not know each other that well simply because we are so removed
from one another. For example, I do not get to observe how Phil chooses
to respond to others while he is stuck in traffic, for example, or how
you might respond if you were teaching a Sunday School class and on a particular
Sunday I was the only one to show up to listen to you.
People are very complicated. Even though believers
are new creations in Christ, one with God in their spirits (I Cor 6:17),
this reality is revealed to each by God slowly and gently and usually over
many years and even decades. In other words, we are in process.
Though the promised land is ours, so to speak, it is not fought over and
possessed in a day.
It is my opinion that revelation from God to a believer
is given to a person in their spirit, and that it takes the mind a while
to make sense of it. For example, a believer may just "know" that
Jesus is coming back soon, but if someone were to hand them a Bible and
a newspaper and say "prove it", that person may not be able to at all.
One reason they may not be able to is that, like I said,
their mind has not had the time to understand the revelation. Another
reason they may not be able to articulate a defense is that the person's
mind does not click very well. They may have Down Syndrome for example.
That is why people who have a strong mind as a gift from
God need to be extra careful and wise. For since revelation is from
God, who is Spirit, and is given to a person's spirit, then without this,
revelation will not take place from one person's mind to another person's
mind. I think it is not uncommon for preachers and teachers to misunderstand
this, hence they resort to impugning motives and emotional manipulation
to try to bring about a response that they themselves have experienced
as a result of God's individual revelation to them.
This brings up another truth. There is one Body.
As a member of that body of Christ, I am interdependent upon all other
members. We are one since we each are one with the same spirit of
God. (I am not saying as the New Age teachings do that we are then God
as well).
Because of the interdependence, then I have a right to
others insights. For example, even though MJ Agee has done decades
of study on end time prophecies, I get to come along and benefit from the
truth behind one of her insights in less than a minute, the very same insight
God has been teaching her over years through much study, wrestling, and
prayer.
And MJ may never get a insight from me. The interdependence
is one member with all other members. Benefit does not have to be
directly and mutually reciprocated between those two members (though it
often is).
My point of the latter is that when you and Phil have
insights, make them known as the Spirit directs you, and explain it as
best as you can because God may wish for some to benefit. But do
not impugn motives just because the level of others' outward responses
are not according to your expectations. People look at others in
terms of the outward, God knows each where their true essense is known,
at the heart level.
If our knowledge does not result in us manefesting the
person of Jesus in greater measure, then who do our insights truly center
upon?
Sincerely, Douglas Henney.
