There is one other interpretation to consider of this passage that you may have not heard before but that you may want to consider.

Does this sound like the modern, heavily fortified, state of Israel? Clearly not.

There is evidence that the land of unwalled villages, where the people have been gathered from the nations and dwell safely and have lots of goods and where Gog etc. ascends to take a spoil is not in the middle east at all but this happens "At that same time" that they attack the Holy Land and as an additional evil thought besides the original plan and takes place right here in this United States of America.

 

There is a stick for Joseph (Israel, Ephraim, Joseph, or "Lost Ten Tribes") and a stick for Judah "The Jews" that are in the latter days combined and no more two separate peoples but become one in the prophet's hand and that is when all the other ungodly kingdoms of the world will be against God's people Israel as a whole. Great Britton (the entire commonwealth) and the United States of America are prophesied to become one with Judah again and be no more two peoples. This is described in Ezekiel 37 just ahead of your chapters (38, 39) and has not happened yet but will take place some time in the near future which is also when the next parts of Ezekiel that your article has quoted will happen but here is the portion of Ezekiel that tells of what I am saying:

 

Ezekiel 37:

 15.  The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,
 16.  Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and for all the house of Israel his companions:
 17.  And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
 18.  And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?
 19.  Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
 20.  And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.
 21.  And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:
 22.  And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.
 23.  Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.

 28.  And the heathen shall know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.

 

Once the rapture has occurred God will again be dealing with Israel as He did before the church was born and this will include all of this nation as well as the commonwealth of Great Britton and the Jews in the Holy Land. These are the people that will come back to their God as they wake up to the fact that they have been deceived by the Antichrist and this world system and all their idols.

 

If you recall in the Colonel Oliver North hearings he had a slide show that showed the powerful threat of the advanced Russian ground forces just south of this United States in Central America and how there was nothing between them and us but easy pickins and he was raising money from private wealthy American citizens because our own government was too stupid to aid our friends in Central America to kick Russia out of there but just allowed them to rape and pillage, kill or convert the men into fighters against their own country, build up huge bases and unbelievable amounts of ground forces there which though our media has been quiet as a church mouse about it, they are still there! What do you think Russia plans to do with all that stuff, fight against goat herders and chicken shacks? They've been waiting a long time for their chance to "Red Dawn" this place but not from the air like in the movies but on the ground from below as in from south and "ascend" (from south to north) which cannot happen from their homeland since there is nothing north of that but ice and polar bears. Why was it considered a worthy thing for us to aid the Afghan Mujahedeen in the 80's (at this same time) clear on the other side of the globe from us in the desert and give them whatever they needed to kick the Russians out of their country but we were not prepared at that same time to aid the Nicaraguan people just down south of us to do the same thing? Those poor "soldiers" didn't even have boots to wear let alone weapons to fight with so anything that Col. North could send them was a huge plus and they arrested him for his efforts. Remember in the hearings that arrogant interrogator telling North: "The American people have the right to be wrong, sir!" As though we decided that the freedom fighters down there should not be helped and once our representatives voted not to help them then North had no business helping them and he needed to be arrested because he "lied to congress" about it... Makes no sense at all what our country did from a strategic perspective but to fulfill Ezekiel it makes perfect sense.
