More on Being Ready

Dear John and Doves,

A couple of years ago I gave a sermon on Lot 's wife.  The subject of the sermon was something that a dear pastor friend had taught his congregation, and me, long ago.  In the Bible, we are only told one time to remember Lot 's wife (Luke 17: 32).  Why is this?  It is mentioned in the context of the rapture.  It is stated as a warning.  It was a profound statement that was made.  So, what is it about Lot 's wife that is so important and critical knowledge pertaining to those individuals about to be raptured?

The answer:

Don't look back!  Don't place your cares in the things of this world, don't anchor yourself to anything, anyone or any work to the extent that it would cause you to “look back” or keep you here at the time of the rapture.  Doing so, might cause you to turn into a pillar of salt…so to speak.

For those that would like to study this; I have placed my sermon notes below.  I have left my comments out and have left mostly the quotes out of scripture.  In doing this, it is my hope and prayer that the Holy Ghost will instruct you in His Holy Word.

Blessings in Him,

     Scripture Reading

Mark 4: 14-20

(v. 14)  The sower soweth the word.

(v. 15)  And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

(v. 16)  And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

(v. 17)  And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

(v. 18)  And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

(v. 19)  And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

(v. 20)  And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

Looking Again at The Sower

Mark 4: 14-20

(v. 14)  The sower soweth the word.

(v. 15)  And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

(v. 16)  And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

They, that are on €œStony Ground€

        Have no Root

        When affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

They, that are €œAmong the Thorns€

        Hear the Word

        The cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.  (v. 19)

Being Not of The World

1 John 2: 15-17

(v. 15)  Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

(v. 16)  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

(v. 17)  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Titus 2: 11-15

(v. 11)  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

(v. 12)  Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

(v. 13)  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

(v. 14)  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

(v. 15)  These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

     The Gospel Plan of Salvation

All have sinned

Romans 3: 23

(v. 23)  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

James 2: 10

(v. 10)  For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Romans 6: 23

(v. 23)  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Salvation is a gift and not of works

Ephesians 2: 8, 9

(v. 8)  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

(v. 9)  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Titus 3: 5-7

(v. 5)  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

(v. 6)  Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

(v. 7)  That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Salvation is of faith in Jesus and living in the word

John 3: 16, 17

(v. 16)  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

(v. 17)  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Acts 16: 31

(v. 29)  Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

(v. 30)  And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

(v. 31)  And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Romans 10: 9, 10

(v. 9)  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

(v. 10)  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

There is no other way into heaven but by Christ

John 14: 6

(v. 6)  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4: 12

(v. 12)  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

1 John 5: 11, 12

(v. 11)  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

(v. 12)  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

His blood was shed for the remission of sin and, His body is the bread of life

Matthew 26: 27-29

(v. 27)  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

(v. 28)  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

(v. 29)  But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

John 6: 47-58

(v. 47)  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

(v. 48)  I am that bread of life.

(v. 49)  Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

(v. 50)  This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

(v. 51)  I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

(v. 52)  The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

(v. 53)  Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

(v. 54)  Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

(v. 55)  For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

(v. 56)  He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

(v. 57)  As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

(v. 58)  This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

Accepting the gift of salvation is by choice and repentance of our sins

Revelation 3: 19-22

(v. 19)  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

(v. 20)  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

(v. 21)  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

(v. 22)  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

There is hope and strength in Christ

Philippians 1: 6

(v. 6)  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Psalms 31: 24

(v. 23)  O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

(v. 24)  Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

Philippians 4: 6, 7

(v. 6)  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

(v. 7)  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Once saved, how then should we be living our lives?

Ephesians 6: 10-20

(v. 10)  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

(v. 11)  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

(v. 12)  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

(v. 13)  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

(v. 14)  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

(v. 15)  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

(v. 16)  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

(v. 17)  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

(v. 18)  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

(v. 19)  And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

(v. 20)  For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
