Thank you for your post. I have long believed that the "shortened days" refers to our now 24 hour day being shortened to possibly a 16 hour day due to the inevitable pole shift that should happen on 12/21/2012.
 
I remember some time back reading about the subject...it was such a scientifically technical article and was quite hard to follow, however I was able to glean from it the understanding that a polar shift would most certainly shorten our 24 hour days. I may be wrong about the days becoming 16 hours long though, maybe it was 18 hours. I can't find the article. Has anyone else something to add, or does anyone know where to find this article or one like it for the purpose of confirmation?
