Dearest Doves,

 

My sister’s birthday is May 15, same as Israel’s, and she loves Dr. Seuss as most of us of do, only more.  I know this is weird but I felt led to share it.  It was a surreal experience for me but I know my perspective is somewhat enhanced by my Hope and my Salvation.  I pray none are offended in what I am certain was the Lord’s wonderful sense of humor sent to me in a special way, even on my sister’s special day.  

 

I had found her a little pop-up book by Dr. Seuss called “Happy Birthday to You!”  When she opened it with her eyes full of glee and started to read it to herself, I suggested that she “Read it out loud!” and she did.  I had read through the book a couple of times since I bought it and even on the day I wrapped it for her, but I had never heard it like I did when she read it … maybe you will hear it as I heard it … maybe not.  If you think I’m weird, I forgive you.  J   If this offends you, please forgive me.

 

 

In Katroo, every year, on the day you were born

The Birthday Honk-Honker blasts the big Birthday Horn

And the voice of the horn calls out loud as it plays:

“Wake up!  For today is your Day of all Days!”  

(On this page, the pop-up is a big banner in the sky, “Wake up!  For today is your Day of all Days!”) 

 

Then, the moment the Horn’s happy honk-honk is heard, 

Comes a fluttering flap-flap – The Great Birthday Bird!

The Bird says “Come on!  Brush your teeth and get dressed! 

It’s your Day of all Days, it’s the Best of the Best!”

(On this page, the pop-up is the Birthday Bird flying high above the character, who is in bed.  The character has only one eye open and a little cat/dog animal under the covers at the foot of the bed has only one eye open, too!) (just for all of us animal lovers!)

 

And five minutes later, you’re having a snack

On your way out of town on a Smorgasbord’s back.

“Today” laughs the Bird, “you don’t have to be neat.

If you wish, you may eat with both hands and both feet.”

(On this page the character is being carried along and is seated with a pop-up of a smorgasbord of delights.)

 

And now, on this Day of all Days in Katroo,

The Asso-see-eye-ation has built just for you

A railway with very particular boats

That are pulled through the air by Funicular Goats.

(On this page the character is being carried high above the ground by the seat of their pants by the Great Birthday Bird.)

Today you are you!  That is truer than true!

There is no one alive who is you-er than you!

Shout loud, “I am lucky to be what I am!

Thank goodness I’m not just a clam or a ham!

I am what I am!  That’s a great thing to be!

If I say so myself, Happy Birthday to Me!”

(On this final page, the character is flying above all, being held up by the Birthday Bird’s elongated nose, with smiles on both of their faces - - as onward they go!)
