"Comment on DC's Post re : food for elderly"

DC, yes  I can see as well that the elderly for the most part is a forgotten group
of God's people. After giving their lives raising their children, it's now those older
people come home once again expecting their parents to take care of them when
it should be the other way around. I know the times are hard, and some types of
jobs are scarce.

Last year, one elderly person who had to use oxygen could not pay his electric
bill and the gracious electric company cut his electricity off and the man died
without a couple of hours. He had children, neighbors, and had lived in the same
house for years so people knew him and knew his needs. Most didn't know until
it came out in the newspaper. The bill he couldn't pay? About $300, which was for
2 months as he didn't use a/c to conserve so he could have his oxygen. Comment
from the electric company was "We tried to work with him, but the bill was 2 months
late."

Well, he had a funeral which others paid for and somehow his 3 children managed
to at least come for the funeral. They said he was too proud and didn't tell them
the situation he was in.

Every summer a few die in the heat as the elderly cannot endure high temperatures
and get dehydrated easily and simply die. Do they have children and neighbors?
Yes, they do. Some attend church regularly. I think last year we had a total of 8
deaths due to this problem. After they were dead, the news and papers called on
neighbors to watch after elderly , checking twice a day, bringing them water and
if needed, to take them to a church or shelter to escape the worst days of heat.
Maybe it will be different this year, maybe people will help and maybe the children
will allow their parents to spend a few days during the heat of the summer with them.

DC, you have the heart of God and I thank you and God thanks so and all Doves
and Christians everywhere.

You know if a church was small with only 200 members and each family brought
one can of food per week for each person in their family, just think how that would
relieve on the food bill and allow for a/c and water in the summer.

We have a few food banks, but problem is these elderly either no longer drive
or can't afford the gas to drive and get to the food banks. The churches or food banks
make no provision for that at all. Then there is those severely handicapped who
could never make it across the city in anyway.

Doves, let's make it a matter of prayer for this love and care Spirit has put in
the heart of DC that God will make a way for those in need to have what they need.
Let's just put it in our notebook and pray daily until we are released by Spirit re
DC  calling, but let us always keep our eyes and ears open for those in need.
