I believe Elliot is speaking of the Bible verse below which is talking about the "day of the Lord".

 

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.  For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.  I Thessalonians 5:2-3

 

This is the only verse in the New Testament with both the word Peace & Safety.

 

First, this is talking about the contrast between Peace & Safety and then sudden destruction.  I would not think that destruction is describing the Rapture.  More details are found in the next verse found in the Bible containing the phrase "day of the Lord". 

 

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.  II Peter 3:10

 

So the sudden destruction is when the heavens pass away along with the earth and the elements shall melt.  I would think that the heavens and the earth do not pass away and the elements melt until after the rapture, the 1000 year reign of Jesus the Christ, and following the short season.  Some people call this "judgment day" when the earth and heavens are burnt up with "fervent heat".  But of course the physicl heavens, (planets, sun, stars, universe) and this earth are cursed with decay.  Everything in this Universe is in a state of decay.  Our Sun is decaying.  Our earth is decaying.   Our physical bodies are in a constant state of decay.  In the New Heaven and the New Earth there will be no decay of any kind.

 

That doesn't mean that I also don't have my own doubts about the veracity of the judgments upon the USA said to be scheduled for 6/16/07 and 6/19/07.  Maybe I'm an optimist in that prayer can keep judgment away, or at least delay it.  Maybe I wonder that if the judgments don't happen then this could all be a trick of our crafty enemy to keep people from watching 7/7/07.  Discredit the messenger and you discredit all the message, even if part of it had an element of truth.

 

All we can do is watch and pray and do as the Lord leads.
