• Powerful spring storm lashes Northeast US. - Wind gusts as high as 70 mph were recorded in Brooklyn, said Tim Morrin of the National Weather Service. He said weather service meteorologists would be examining the damage Thursday to determine if any tornadoes had formed.

Plagues/Pestilence -

• School's pet bat tests positive for rabies - Two staff members at Trinity Lutheran School are getting a weekslong series of rabies shots after a bat kept in a locked terrarium tested positive for the disease.

Strange Earth Signs -

• Southern Ocean saturated with carbon dioxide-study - The Southern Ocean around Antarctica is so loaded with carbon dioxide that it can barely absorb any more, so more of the gas will stay in the atmosphere to warm up the planet, scientists reported on Thursday.

 Strange Events in the Animal Kingdom 

• Australian mother with baby attacked by shark - A woman and her baby survived a shark attack in knee-deep water at a popular Australian holiday beach, authorities said on Thursday.

There are rumours Fateh gunmen are simply shooting at anything that moves, and some families have been trapped in their homes for four days. WEIRD SCIENCE:

• Scientists allowed to experiment on hybrid embryos - Research into potentially life-saving medical treatments using part-human, part-animal embryos is to be allowed after a rethink by ministers.
