Who is Babylon the Great and why is she destroyed? (the USA in Bible
prophesy?)

(Revelation 17-18, Jeremiah 50-51, Isaiah 13-14; see also Jeremiah 25,
Ezekiel 38,39)

The three accounts (Revelation, Jeremiah, and Isaiah) are all of the
same end-times world power that is destroyed by God. Together they
describe an incredibly wealthy and powerful military nation that is
located on the backside of the globe comprised of a mingled population
of immigrants, including large numbers of Jews. The wealthy and very
proud nation is a net- transoceanic- importer of consumer products from
all around the world, and an exporter of technology, manufacturing,
music, and a popular culture that seduces the rest of the world. Unlike
ancient Babylon, this nation sits between large seas over which its
trade is conducted. The geographic reach of its military power and
dominance reaches the "seven mountains" of the world, which is to say a
military presence on all seven continents [World's seven major summits:
North America (Mount McKinley), South America (Aconcagua), Africa
(Kilimanjaro), Antarctica (Vinson Massif ), Australia (Kosciuszko), Asia
(Everest), Europe (Elbrus)]. The nation will in particular have a close
relationship with the EU and the UN, although eventually they will
resent it and cooperate in its fiery destruction. The nation's might
will include a space program with exploration, militaristic, and
religious overtones. Key feature of it's culture will be pride,
materialism, idols, drunkenness, and imagery. Its "Chaldean"-like wisdom
is renowned as are its wealthy businessmen who are the great men of the
earth.

The obvious parallels to the United States of America are many, in fact
no other country comes even close to fulfilling these prophesies as
closely and precisely as the USA does. Note that nowhere in Revelation
17-18 is Babylon described as an apostate religious institution, even
though that is the most common interpretation (The parallel passages in
Jeremiah 50-51 and Isaiah 13-14 are even less religious). Further, the
cities of Rome and Bagdad are minor players on the world of
international trade and finance, and neither is know for its maritime
prowess. The nuclear destruction of either city might horrify the world,
but would not cause too much loss to the entire world. On the other
hand, the United States' nuclear destruction would surely cause the
world's businessmen (but not religious men) to weep bitterly.

The nation is described as a "golden cup" used by God to induce a
drunken madness to the whole world (according to the old adage, "whom
the gods destroy they first make mad"). After causing all the nations to
drink of the cup, including Israel, then the cup is turned to this
nation ("Sheshak") who is forced to drink it. (Jeremiah 25). After
turning of the cup to Israel it resists drinking of the same wrath and
destruction, but it will happen (Jeremiah 25:28-29)

Therefore its demise is triggered following its forced dissection of the
land of Israel, which coincides with the advent of persecution of its
own population (Christians and Jews). The persecution at home will
involve violence, domestic unrest, prison camps, and slain martyrs. The
policy toward Israel will take Jerusalem and the Temple-mount and give
it to others, causing mayhem in that country. Due to these betrayals and
the violence and bloodshed caused thereby, God decrees Babylon's
destruction through a surprise nuclear attack, an invasion, and an
enormous land-subduction event that causes the ocean to inundate large
swathes of the country (compare this with the Atlantis myth). Those that
still survive will not be able to remain in the area due to radiation
sickness. Survivors return to their countries of origin, and the Jews
return to Israel. The land is then left forever desolate, a testimony to
God's vengeance against it.

The direction by nuclear attack comes from the north, which might
included a route over the north pole. The attack and invasion of Babylon
is said to come from a coalition of countries that are not identified,
however they are described as being lead by the Medes. The ancient Medes
and Persians were also the destroyers of ancient Babylon (Daniel 5:28).
It is interesting that a Russian-Persian coalition (Persia, Ethiopia,
Libya, Gomer, Togarmah, Magog, Meshech and Tubal) is involved in a land
invasion of Israel in Ezekiel 38-39. The coalition does not list Babylon
even though any attack on Israel from Iran would have to go through Iraq
(Babylon). The Russian-Persian group contemplates an opportunity to
attack another unnamed nation at the same time as they go against Israel
(See Ezekiel 38:10). This other country is described as an unguarded
land of rich suburbs located in a former wilderness filled with
immigrants from all around the world (38:11-12), a likely reference to
the United States.

Therefore we seem to have a very interesting prophetic overlap of
mutually assured destruction of both the Unites States and Russia at
each other's hands. While invading the United State's future vassal
state of Palestine-Jordan-Iraq, the Russian-Persian group surprises the
US with a nuclear missile attack that destroys the entire country. The
surviving US forces evidently launch a relatively weak nuclear
counter-attack, but it still manages to destroy five-sixth of the
Russians (Ezekiel 39:2). The subduction event then occurs that not only
submerges the Unites States Plains with a flood from the Gulf of Mexico,
but causes a world-wide earthquake that shakes Israel and the entire
world (Ezekiel 38:19-20). Both sets of prophesies are followed by Jews
returning to Israel (Jeremiah 50:4; Ezekiel 39:25). (A later stage Magog
attack is found in Revelation 20:8-10, the final fulfillment of
Ezekiel's prophesies).

This prophetic overlap of Babylon's destruction and Magog's destruction
would explain why both descriptions describe utter destruction at the
hands of unnamed enemies. They destroy each other at the same time while
fighting over control of Jerusalem. This mutual destruction of the US
and Russia, and perhaps China as well, will leave the EU assert total
world control, headed by the Dragon's Beast and his Antichrist false
prophet. The Jews must then endure their final and most viscous pogrom
and await rescue. The Beast then marshals the world's armies to
Jerusalem to resist the return of Jesus Christ, and they get burned up
at the second advent that follows shortly thereafter.
