"Diamond Rio song perspective from an actual radio guy"

Hello again,

I appreciate Stephen link to the Diamond Rio song...but once again need to clear up a couple of facts about the alleged story about radio stations not playing the song because of "political correctness".  (I posted this once before but will repeat for anyone who didn't catch that)

I've worked in radio for 24 years and in country radio for the past 11 years.  There was no concerted effort for radio stations to not play Diamond Rio's "In God we still trust".  Couple of fast facts:  radio stations virtually never work together...i've even worked for mammoth companies and it's hard enough to get employees in the same building to communicate....so the possibility of radio stations deciding to do anything together virtually never happens.  And, I've never been in any radio station where any song has been not aired for politically correct reasons.  Only exception was the Dixie Chick debacle...and even that was decided on a station by station basis eventually.

Second fact:  radio people are rarely smart enough to coordinate anything.  And, even if they are, you can probably count on laziness to keep them from doing anything about it (I only wish I were joking).

The country format has played the living daylights out of Carrie Underwood's "Jesus take the wheel", Brooks & Dunn's "Believe", Jimmy Wayne's "I love you this much" just to name a few which are actually very specific in their Christian message....much more than even the Diamond Rio song.

Again...to emphasize...nothing against Stephen or any others who wish that song had been a hit.  But the sad fact is that the song came out when there were alot of other ballads out there....and it didn't get played very much because it didn't catch on and become a hit.  We played the song on my station several times when it first came out and got no response whatsoever.

Your brother in Christ,

Jeff "Doc" Holliday
