How do you explain these verses:1 Cor 12: 4: Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.1Cor 12: 7- 10: But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: Notice here it does not say TO ALL is given the gift ot tongues.1 Cor 12: 28-31: 2And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.The unwritten aswer here is NO, but the apostle Paul assumes the reader knows the answer.Paul clearly states that NOT ALL HAVE THE SAME GIFTS. We are all baptized with the Holy Spirit at the point of salvation but we can quench that Spirit and need refilling. Why do you suppose the Virgins were in need of more oil, symbolized by the Holy Spirit, for their lamps? There is an old saying "One baptism, many fillings."
D.L. Moody said, "But at that moment when I depart, my spirit shall have its last baptism in the Holy Spirit’s fire." http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/Books,%20Tracts%20&%20Preaching/Printed%20Sermons/DL_Moody/holy_ghost.htm
Many Spirit-filled Christians throughout the centuries have NOT spoken in tongues. The tongues the apostles spoke on the day of Pentecost and thereafter were in a known language in order that the hearers, who were from diverse lands, could understand what was being preached. They did NOT speak in some gibberish that many today call "speaking in tongues".Interestingly enough, this so-called "prayer language" sounds exactly like the language spoken by witch doctors and voodoo priests.
Much harm has been done to genuine believers over the issue of "speaking in tongues", and can cause years of irreparable hurt to those genuine believers who have NOT been given the gift of speaking in tongues. Be careful of how you interpret this passage and apply it to believers today. WE DO NOT ALL HAVE THE SAME GIFTS. Certainly the true gift of speaking in tongues is NOT the same as roaring like a lion or barking like a dog, or rolling on the floor in uncontrollable laughter. I do not think God is glorified in any of these demonic practices.
There are many fine articles on this subject, and I can refer several for those who are interested in rightly dividing the truth. Here are but a few:
