Why I wrote the novel The Apostasy
Bill Copeland
May 11, 2007Although I have been a student of Bible prophecy for almost forty years it still seems unreal that God has used me to write an “end time’s novel.” (I was the kid all through school that was doodling hotrods in English class)
God has called me into the ministry of teaching Bible prophecy to bring people back to the truth of what His Word proclaims about the end times we are living in. Bible prophecy is crucial to understand in the now of our times. Almost one third of the Bible concerns prophecy. It is interesting to note that prophecy is absent from the Koran, the Hindu Vedas, the works of Buda or Confucius, the Book of Mormon, or the writings of any other world religion. This fact alone provides an undeniable stamp of divine approval upon our Christian faith.
Just like the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been watered down and changed by man’s opinions, so has the teachings of Bible prophecy in the last forty years. So much of what Christians believe today as doctrine about prophecy concerning our future is in fact only the opinions of some of the Christian “super star” writers of our generation. If Christians do not have the knowledge of Biblical truth revealed by the author of Scripture, the Holy Spirit, instead of the opinions of men, the Church will enter the coming times unprepared, spiritually naked, vulnerable, and ripe for the deceptions of the Anti-christ. That is why God compelled me to write The Apostasy.
After reading most of the Christian novels over the years written about Bible prophecy I was appalled by some of the unscriptural scenarios presented by Christian authors who have played fast and loose with end time events. (I’m sorry, but the Anti-christ is not going to talk the Arabs into moving the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem to Mecca so the Jewish Temple can be rebuilt. That would be like saying Congress is going to move the monumental site of the Battle of Gettysburg to Los Angeles).
The word apostasy means “a falling away” or an abandonment of one’s faith. The apostle Paul teaches in II Thessalonians 2:1-3 that a “sudden and terrible apostasy” will occur right before the rapture, and that it will be a series of “lying signs and wonders” (verse 9). Then in verse eleven, he states that it will be a strong “delusion”.
Although The Apostasy is a fiction novel, it is a possible scenario based on what God’s Word says is going to happen in our future. Each chapter of the book begins with a scripture that is going to be dealt with in that chapter.
The Apostasy deals with the now of the times we are living in, from school shootings to the planning of those in the occult to the coming “New World Order”. It gives rational to the mystery of the UFO phenomenon and how Satan could very well use a UFO delusion to hide the miracle of the Rapture. Unlike most “End Time” novels where the Anti-christ plays the biggest part on the side of evil, in The Apostasy the False Prophet is the main bad guy character. He is the one that performs wonders and miracles, creates the image that speaks, causes all on the earth to worship the image in a false religion, kills those who do not worship the image, and causes all to receive “the mark” (Rev. 11:13-17).
God compelled me to write this book. Using prophetic scripture and the thoughts He has given me. I present it not as if this is exactly what is going to happen, but to warn Christians that something is going happen.Bill Copeland
