Hi, Dianne & Doves!
What phenomenal timing on your part! My husband
and I began watching Rabbi Kirk Schneider on TV Sunday nights at 6:30 p.m.
(CST), and he was doing a 4-part series on the Shabbat. As a result,
Richard & I have decided that, even though as Born-Again Gentiles,
we are not obliged to celebrate it from sundown on Friday to sundown on
Saturday, it apparently makes YHWH happy for us to do it that way, and
we are promised special blessings if we do. So we figure that if
it makes Him happy, we're all for it, considering He's oh, so much smarter
than we are! :-) He rested on the 7th day, and ceased from
His labors, setting down the perfect example for us, knowing how tiring
and stressful our labors are!
Rabbi Schneider suggested that we begin Shabbat by taking
at LEAST 30 minutes, to start with, to be completely still and quiet, and
silently commune with Him. This should be interesting for me, because
in my 53, I don't think I've EVER been still or quiet for 30 minutes!
:-) Only for the Lord, can I do so!
Then he suggested that the rest of the 24-hour period,
we listen to Christian music, watch Christian movies, read Christian literature,
nap, make love (if one is married), napping... in essence, just spend the
entire time praising and worshipping Him, and RESTING! No telephones,
no work of any sort, no interruptions (personal calls, email, etc.).
I can't WAIT to try it!!! The Rabbi said that if we keep to this,
our walk with the Lord will be closer as a result. Please pray that
He will bless our efforts to please Him in this way!
My Mom was asking me where in the Bible does it set down
that the Shabbat is from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset... can you please
help me out with this?
I will let you all know next week how our celebration
with the Lord went! Thanks for your prayers!
YSIC!
