Dear Doves,A few weeks ago, I was listening to Pastor Chuck Missler talk about the battle where Joshua asked the Lord for the sun to stand still. See Joshua 10. He made an interesting observation concerning the hailstones that the Lord used to destroy the enemy. "As they fled before Israel on the road down from Beth Horon to Azekah, the Lord hurled large hailstones down on them from the sky, and more of them died from the hailstones than were killed by the swords of the Israelites." Joshua 10:11. He believes that the hailstones could have been asteroids or some other space debris. In order for these hailstones to arrive on earth at that particular time, God would have had to set them into motion well in advance of the battle.
I guess that I have the Schwassman-Wachmann comet on my brain, because it occurred to me that it or something like it could play a role in the upcoming Gog-Magog invasion of Ezekiel 38 and 39. Hailstones play a role in that battle, too. "This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord. In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign Lord. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord." Ezekiel 38:21-23. With the Schwassman-Wachmann comet breaking up into many pieces, wouldn’t it be something if it was breaking up to form the hailstones of the Gog-Magog invasion? I have no idea if this particular comet has any real prophetic significance, but it has reminded me that we do not have a "last minute" God. We know that there will be more and more signs in the heavens as we get closer to the Lord’s return; we may not realize, however, the amount of planning that is required for these signs to occur at their appointed times. We serve an amazing God who controls the universe – one who even prepares hailstones in advance.
"Have you entered the storehouses of the snow or seen the storehouses of the hail, which I reserve for times of trouble, for days of war and battle?" Job 38:22.
