Matt, I don't know if you are Catholic, or if you are wanting scriptural references in order to refute these blasphemous lies from the Roman Catholic cathechism, but I will share my thoughts with you on the subject. If we are to believe the lies that this doctrine teaches then we have no eternal security and no blessed hope. The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ, the only Saviour, died to pay the price for ALL our sins. That includes sins past, present and future. That means if we, who ahve trusted in Him, have not confessed a particular sin up to the last moment before the Lord calls us home, then we are still forgiven. There is no sin that is too great for God to forgive, and the Lord is very patient with us."The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9.If we believe the Lord Jesus Christ, and the written Word of God rather than relying upon the "traditions of men" then we have complete assurance that we are forgiven. The Word tells us that He is faithful and just to cleanse us from all sin, and that our sins are removed from his sight and remembrance.Psalm 103:12 "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us
Jeremiah 31:34 tells us "And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
We are also told by the Lord in John 10:27-29 : "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand."Trust the Lord, and rest assured that if you sincerely confessed Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour then you belong to Him for all eternity, not just up until some point in time where you step over the line that separates you from the sins that are forgiven and those that are not. His peace is perfect, and if we had to worry whether or not we are heaven-bound, we would have no peace.
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength." Is 26:3-4.
The scripture you closed with sums it up, and does NOT agree with the sin of presumption.
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." 1 John 5:13
