Palestinian leaders meeting in Ramallah, Gaza

Leaders of the various Palestinian groups were meeting Thursday in Gaza and Ramallah to discuss agreement reportedly reached earlier between Hamas and Fatah, as well as the peace initiative proposed by imprisoned Palestinian leaders that approves the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.

Earlier Thursday, Palestinian sources reported that Hamas and Fatah have compromised on the main points of contention between the two organizations. Hamas agreed to let Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas negotiate with Israel according to the principles of the PLO, although the Palestinians will vote in a referendum on any resulting agreement.

Also on Thursday, Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said that the Palestinians would recognize Israel only after Israel withdraws from all Palestinian territory.

He further stated that until that happened, Palestinian resistance would not subside.

'Palestinians' will geta state, regardless

The message out of Washington Tuesday was that while the US and Israel would like to see the Palestinian Arabs become true partners for peace, the latter will be given the state they demand regardless of whether they fully recognize Israel and stop murdering Jews or not.
